Default Need new engine

Sorry if the is in the wrong section.

My truck is in need of a new engine. It had a crack in the block, and the coolant ran out, so it overheated to the point that it is no longer repairable. I'll be replacing the full engine, not just the block.

It is a:
1999 Dodge Ram 3500 Turbo Diesel

I mainly need to know from what other year's the engines will fit. Like will a 98, 00, 01 so on and so forth "bolt right up" so to speak? I'll be calling junkyards fairly soon, and would just like to know my options. Thanks

As long as its a '98 through (I think '03) everything should bolt up fine. You would have to make sure that the '98 would be a 24 valve and not a 12 valve since they offered both that year. And your computer would already be set up to run with the VP44 which was in until '03 (I think). Drew would know better about that.

02 is the last year of the vp44 so you need a 98-02. However there are differences between the engines, nothing inside though. You'll be able to swap you parts onto the engine. I beleive the turbos are different depending on year and trans and that's about it.

Ok, awesome, thanks for the responses guys. I'll call around the junkyards and whatnot today. Anybody know of any decent places online? I'm in Minnesota, so anywhere that's near here, or that ships freight nice and cheap would be great.

sounds like you got bitten by a '53' block.

they may be hard to come by, but you might be able to find some VP44 ISB's out of the larger fed-ex and UPS vans. the smaller ones usualy come with 4bt's.
