Default Dodge Warranty issue/ Injectors

Hello all.. Im a first time poster....

As a Moderator of a large BB (for barrel racing) I know sometimes how first time posters can be.. So I am Apoligising in advance.

I did a search and came up with nothing SPECIFIC to what I am dealing with....

Hubby an I love our Dodge Trucks.. they have run well.... with only minor repairs until now. We have several Dodge vehicles with our Environmental business in addition to our 2 trucks we use.

LAst month, my truck rolled over 100,000 miles (04 2500 Ram Cummins) while on a trip out of state.

I noticed a rough idle when in Drive, and the brake on... not noticable when the truck was running down the road. The rough idle was more pronounced when in Drive, Brake on, and a little torque put to it.... it showed the most shimmy at 1300 RPM's

Concerned..I drove all over creation wanting to get this truck looked at. I went to 2 dealers.. neither could even look at my truck for 2-3 weeks.

I got in at Bob Moore in Edmond, OK. They checked over the Drive Train, and found nothing... And told me in a condesending tone that "Maam, Diesels Idle rougher than cars"... LOL.... Concidering all I drive are diesels!

That was on Sat, Aug 18.

On Monday the 20th, I was still worried. I took my truck to Bob Howard in OKC.

Their Service Director (NICE GUY) humored me, and took the truck for a drive, about 10 miles.... He did feel what I was talking about.

He suggested that it could be a Torque Converter issue. Gave me the OK to drive it.

Now keep in mind.. My truck DID NOT have ANY check engine light.. No "Codes were thrown"

And now...My truck is in at Christopher Dodge in Denver. They determined that the #2 injector is bad, and now all 6 injectors need replaces as Fuel Rail pressure is not in preameters.

My truck currently has 103,000 mi on it.

Id like to approach Dodge as I see several issues as being problematic.

#1, an engine is not supposed to die within a handful of miles after the warranty goes out.

#2, As a concerned and pro-active owner, these problems were not identified eary.

#3, The truck did not give warning to the driver of a potential MAJOR engine problem (Check engine light)

#4, as a loud and known voiceof rodeo and barrel racers, I would think they may want to keep me happy

Now let me follow up.

On Friday, Mr. Grenda, who is the Regional Service Director of the Denver area called me.....

This process was amazing.. I still CAN NOT believ that Dodge does not give out the regional Guy's name.. Neither does the local dealwership... To me this is a COMPLETE lack of accountability, as this person can hide and not be contacted unless he wants to call you!

and said that Dodge will not cover ANY of this fix.

Please keep in mind my concern here has gone WAY beyond the financial issue, as our company will pay for any repair.. This is a matter of PRINCIPAL now for me.

Initially, Mr. Grenda told me that this would be a diffrent situation, if I had been the 1st owner of the truck.... Problem is.. I AM!

He also discounted all of the attempts I made to be pro-active in this situation and gettting the problem diagnosed.

Although he got upset when I asked him If I could quote him.... When I asked him if I should assume that my 06 Dodge with Cummins Injectors would go out around 100,000 miles, and Dodge would not stand behind it, he said "Yes that is correct"

The still LACK of a Check Engine light is VERY concerning.

What if this had been a little 18 yr old girl hauling her barrel horse across the country, and she didnt notice this diffrent idle... NO WARNING LIGHT at all.. and all 6 injectors being bad..... I would think with all of the things that casue those lights to go off.. THIS WOULD BE A PRIORITY.

At this point, Im taking No action on the truck. It is sitting at Christopher Dodge in Denver awaiting my decision.....

I can tell you, I am disaopinted in Dodge's attitude, apparently they dont realise that it is usually easier to keep a customer (especially one with a fairly large company and several fleet vehicles) than to try to find new ones.

From what I understand, Dodge will not over ride District Mgr.'s decision.

If anyone has a diffrent approach on how to deal with this, id sure be interested in hearing it.

A misfiring injector will not throw a code unless it is on the electrical side of the injector. The electrical side can be good if the mechanical side is bad. The misfire could be due to scoring and such in the injector or just carbon build up on the tips of the injectors. Do you tow a lot with this truck? If it is just carbon on the tips, you might be able to clean them up by putting some fuel additive in the tank and driving the heck out of it.

This truck has been used a little to tow with.. But not very often at all.. Id say MAYBE 8,000 miles, and 90% of those were with a small 2 horse gooseneck.

I may concider trying the additive.. Which Brand would you reccomend?

If it is not a Carbon related issue.. What kind of problems if any could be casued by continuing to drive with the injectors out?

Fuel Filter was changed every 15,000 mi.

Talked to our diesel Mechanic 9not dealership) and it is not just a carbon issue.. need a full cangeout... additionally.. he reccomended we go ahead and change out the injectors on our 06 that is approaching 100k.

Any Input?

Is it just the new injectors that are doing this? Both my 01's have around 150k miles and on has had 80% trailer (38ft 3hs slant) and other has bout 50% with a car trailer. o well I wanna get some Edge injectors when I work on my pickup next few years.

Fuel additive I use is Stanadyne. 2 others I hear on here use Power Service or Lucas. There are several problems that can occur if you keep running it with bad (missfiring) injectors. If the spray pattern was screwed up do to carbon you could be washing a cylinder wall causing scoring. If it is a small missfire you should be able to run it for a while before any major damage is done. I'd say try the fuel additive for a couple weeks and see if it goes away, if it doesn't you'll need new injectors.
