As long as I don't drop the filter. Ziplock bag trick is pure genius.

Of course I only see one little stain on your floor, you must of had it down to a science.

hahaha...I used a snow saucer disk which is about 3 1/2 feet around under the drain pan, and it still went everywhere. my drainpan sucks. I should take it back and get a different one (just got the new one).

Snow saucer is a hell of an idea, bet it went good in the snow after being oiled up. I usually throw down a decent size plastic drop cloth. Used to have an old Bronco II with a 3.0L v6 in it. Oil filter was situated much the same as the CTD (little different in size though) vertical and high up on the block. Well I drained my oil and was taking the filter off, had a little oil on my hands and you guessed it, oil filter slipped right out of my hands. The good news was it landed in the drain pan, the bad news was it landed in the drain pan. Splashed oil EVERYWHERE. I didn't know 5 quarts of oil could make that much mess. All over the garage floor, all over me, took me days to get the oil out of my hair. Threw my clothes away. Looked like I was lost in the 1950's for days..... So I'll do damn near anything to make it neater.

I know that we have all had this discussion before, but.... aren't you affraid that a log/rock/anything is gonna come up and hang on that thing?? With as much off roading you do, and if you still think it will be ok Steve, then I might go ahead and order one.

My dealer here changes it for this much....

....but once I start using full synthetic then I will probably start doing it myself.

I have no worries about knocking it off... anything coming up will have to get past the diff. it's protected enough for me not to worry about it. the trails I run on dont have anything that is too hairy & scary I like the current shape of my truck lol...

Man for dino oil $50 is a steal. Figure $10/gal of oil with the filter is about $40 in materials alone. Here's my problem with the dealer doing it. Do you trust that they lube that wonderful grease fitting on the front shaft? And do they prefill the filter? Not to mention I HATE a grease monkey that does a sloppy-assed oil change.

I threw out a post a while back about the fears of this drain plug as well. I don't seriously off road alot, but when I do I was afraid of a snag or something catching and opening the valve. I'm hoping that when I tighten mine up the thumb release will be in the back.

Since you will not be removing the valve near as often as you would the originaldrain plug, is there a chance that it will become stuck if you do need to remove it for some reason, say 4-5 oil changes down the road, know what I mean?
