Brake ideas?

Anyone have any ideas for brakes, regular rotors vs slotted/drilled and types of pads. I go through a lot of rear brakes/rotors, mostly during the summer rainy times.Oil/gas lease roads consist of clay and course sand with a sprinkling of gravel (oil companies saygravel is too costly!) After running through this crap for 10 to 12 hrs a day, the stuff gets tightlypacked into calipers, causing them to drag?Ido crawl under the truck and give the underside a good washing(with a pressure washer). But usually its too late to do any good damage has been done! Wondering if a slotted/drilled rotor might help? I have the "brake shields" installed, but this stuff gets every where! I'm thinking maybe I should remove the shields, the stuff really gets packed up between the shield and the caliper. problem is, if I remove the shields then the caliper bushings and seals take a pounding. Too bad DC didn't set the calipers up towards the top of the wheel say at the 1 o-clock position rather then at the 3 o-clock. It would allow the mud/crap to fall rather then collect?

Here's what Diesel Demon had to say on the topic a while ago.
Bendix severe duty slotted rotors, and a set of Duralast Gold carbon/metallic pads. A good pad and rotor combo that work VERY well together. I personally avoid cross drilled unless it is the setup where the rotor has 5 or 6 slots, and only 3 holes between each slot. That is a nice setup, IF, it's ordered in the severe/heavy duty version. The rotors with the "swiss cheese" look can tolerate heat, but now you have about 10,000 times the surface area for corrosion to set in. And in heavy brake applications, they have been know to warp as bad as unslotted/cross rotors. And one good salty winter speeds up the corrosion process.........lol. Just be more educated when you go to the parts store. Most if the time they assume slotted/crossed ARE heavy duty. Not necessarily.
The trick to Dodge Ram brakes is keeping the bushings and slider pins greased well. I do my truck three times a year.
