They use the Actron at autozone when they scan for you, and also sell it at Advance. It seems that one is more for the do it yourselfer, I was never impressed with it, seems all it does is read & erase. It doesn't let you put veh info into it and explain codes, gives you a number and you have to look it up and do research. Don't know about the other one.

the bottom end acutron is probably the one they use, the ones I listed are taking actual data off the sensors, supposedly your also able to graph them.

what do you need it to do? (just curious)... I'm also thinking about getting a borescope. found them as cheep as $100 bux reman'd on e-bay. The Actron model I posted seems to do what I need it to do and is not overly expensive @ $260 shipped... I might go that route.

I've managed to get away without a code scanner all these years and now it's getting tougher to reset the CE lights... my wifey's toy is tossing one for a cat in-efficiency and it would be nice to reset it until we get the cat swapped (or rear o2 cleaned/replaced)...

Well, all I really need to do is retrieve and erase codes, but with mine I can view freeze frame data on all the sensors, and I can use it to tell if my car is ready for an emissions test, but we dont have those here anyways[8D]

Obviously you want something that can do a little more, but I would still suggest going with actron, they just make awesome stuff.

yeah I want something that is going to tell me what the sensors are doing and the graphing function of the actron 9xxx model is an attractive feature.

Steve I will tell you from experience that cheap boroscopes are a waste of money, You won't be able to see anything with them. I personally don't really use them, but I know some people that swear by them, but if you plan on actually using one I'd go with a little more expensive one. I think the best one i've ever used for the money was like $800 or so, wasn't mine so I'm not sure. And for scan tools, also u get what u pay for there, most of the really cheap scantools can't read all the codes or don't have any sensor data, but that actron with the sensor data and graphing seems like that might be a pretty decent deal.

well the one I end up with will have to give me more than just a code... On the borescopes... I dont need state of the art or anything like that but one that will allow me to peek into spots I couldnt otherwise get to would be nice. Which borescope did you use that was a waste of money?

Cummins has a complete Diagnostic/Information center that reads all data and codes on their engines. Commercial trucks with Cummins engines can get this option installed, either at the factory or at a Cummins Power Center as an aftermarket item.

It is a real shame that Dodge does not offer this Cummins option on the Cummins Diesel Ram pickups.
