diesel engine..

So the guys showed up today to drill the wells in my yard and the owner drives a nice '06 QC 3500 CTD. He uses this on to pull his travel trailer and assorted stuff so he doesnt have to spend money on hotels/motels... not a bad idea.

The impressive things though is the Air Compressor that he uses while drilling... It's powered by a Detroit Diesel V12 (ok ,not a cummins) twin turbo, 500 hp or so.
The compressor puts out 900 CFM at ~350 psi....

Anybody wanna guess how much torque that things putting out? No, really , i don't have a clue..

The bad thing is the only place to put it is 20 ft from the house. I think its gonna be LOUD here tomorrow and thursday [:@]

A Detroit 12v71 can be anywherefrom 450hp low output to 1,200hp tricked out J&T at 2,200 rpm

PS nobody has ever accused a detroit of be quiet when its making hp.
Its a two stroke so it fires 12 times a revolution in stead of 6 like a cat

the 8v92's we have around the shop are around 3-400hp, and punch out about 1600ftlb . . .they make a heck of a lot of noise and smoke getting there[:@]

that 12v71 Id say is pushing a bit more from being a v12.

Some will say a detriot is only good for turning diesel into smoke and noise

Drilling rigs are loud. Will they go home at night or will they be drilling through the night? The engine speed stays really constant, so I don't know how they work, but the load, I guess doesn't change. Your neighbors will love it. Around here it was about $12 per foot to drill.

If you think that big you should see the 16v92, I was rewiring the convention center when they were unloading gen sets for a show and were pulling one out of a trailer and I said oh a Detroit must be a 8v92 then it kept coming out and out, I called Dad and told him I found him an upgrade for his 8v71 but we were going to have to add on the the rear LOL

Actually, the drilling rig itself is fairly quiet, especially compared to the Compressor.
Ha, no they arent drilling thorough the night..They go home. One neighbor is a sherriff and two others work for Glock (which is down near my office no less). I'm not gonna pi$$ em off....

Yes, it is LOUD when running full tilt as it is right this moment.[:@] I've got pretty good distance from my neighbors and I warned them ahead of time.

Its costing me about 7.50 a foot ( this is for geothermal system and not a water well) and is pretty reasonable compared to some quotes we got. Some actually made it up to 15 a foot.

I'll get a pic of the rig on here later.
