I'd also agree to go with the 5.9... when the mod bug hits, I think the 5.9 is eaiser to mod... well the exhaust is anyway... dont really know how the rest of the motor is to mod yet, havent really heard much in the works...

Realisticaly, the 6.7/6 speed, doesn't do much more than the 5.9/4spd. Other than being a littlesmoother I have heard some people say. I think in a quad cab, short bed, it only tows like 400 lbs more. I was told by a Dodge service tech that the only reason they went to the 6 speed was to try and keep the milage up that the emissions crap eats up. I don't know that this is the only reason, but this is just what he said. Plus, I was told that the 6 speed trans is basically the same as the 48re, just two more shifts. So I still don't know that it is any more durabull. Only time will tell. I waited until the last minute to get my 5.9, and I almost waited too long. One month priorto buying my truck there were about 40 trucks that had the options I wanted, from Washington, to Sacramento, CA. 25 day's later there was 2. I didn't wait any longer trying to get the best deal and bought it. Glad I did. I didn't want to be a ginny pig for a new vehical.

Good luck with your purchase!!

If you would like a manual... and you're looking for the perfect truck (for you anyways) .... don't settle. Follow your heart and find yourself a 5.9 6 speed.

the 68RE is actualy a new tranny from the ground up. it is a 5spd tranny with a dual overdrive to keep the engine from downshifting so far to the next gear. then the overdrive is to get the engine RPM's down for highway travel.
