Default Should I get this 5.9 4 speed or wait for a 6.7 6 speed?

Here is a link to the 3rd Gen section whereI posted this message. https://dodgeforum.com/m_993316/tm.htm

I've gotten no response and realizedI was asking the wrong people. I'm still on my quest to find the perfect truck (for me anyways). This truck has everything on my list except the 6.7. Is it worth it to get th 5.9 instead? is the 5.9 better? Help me out please!

Thank You
Randy

right now. . .there are a few issues with quite a few6.7's, not all have problems, but when they do it is emissions related. Id give another year or two for dodge to finaly get the bugs worked out.

go with the 5.9L. you wont be dissapointed

Get the 5.9L definitely... why you still can....like now....hurry, before it is to late!

Post back again after you have gone and picked her up .

Seriously though, what Drew said. I wouldn't have all the emmisions stuff on my truck if I could help it, just looks like more problems waiting to happen if you ask me. The only problem with getting the 5.9L that you speak of, is that it will be coupled with a 4 speed auto... can't you find any G56 6 speed manuals hooked to a 5.9L, now that is the way to go , IMO.

Oh yeah, you're gonna have to change your name from hemiriden to cumminsriden also.

THANKS SO MUCH! I didn't knwo there was such problems with the 6.7.... I wonder is there a way to bolt the 6.7 6 speed to the 5.9? hhhmmmmmm might be worth looking into. I agree with you Savage i would like the 6 speed manual... but this is a used truck on a Ferd lot.... About the name.... not sure what to change it to....

ON another SAD note.... I hate dealerships.... I went there yesterday and told themI was interested, I told the sales man to hold the truck til today so i can secure financing. I went to BofA (where my current truck loan is through) and got another one for 44k. Went there today after reading your posts (like Savage said...before it is too late).... I met up with Paul (my sales guy) and we looked for 10 minutes in there golf cart... only to find another sales person sold it 30 minutes before.... AND IGNORED THE HOLD.... They tried to appologize and said they would give me a screaming deal on a Ferd to make up.... Yea... you can guess how far that went... DAMN.... I hate myself sometimes.... Such is the downfalls of life.... I will get my CTD though.... Just wait... I will move over to the dark side soon! Thanks for your input... With my new found knowledge i will be looking for a good 5.9 instead.... Emmisions problems....I never knew...

EDIT: If someone knows of a Good CTD QC for sale in Florida let me know! I'm constantly looking but some of the smaller dealers don't post there auto's online. I'm in Orlando area, but would travel to Jax, Miami, or Tampa to get the truck I'm looking for (up to 400 miles). I prefer a New/used truck... A used truck that could me mistaken for new because of it's quality.

Thanks
-R

I have the 6.7 and its in the shop right now again. check engine lightcome on. I got it in july. I test drove both the 5.9 and the 6.7. I'm almost regretting getting the 6.7. the 6.7 definitely felt smoother to me, I think because of the new 6 speed tranny, and it absolutely works great in tow haul mode. its pretty much like the chevy allison tranny. The 5.9 didn't feel as smooth to me.compared to the 6.7. but if they just get these stupid bugs worked out of the new 6.7 I would really be happy.

44K is way to much for that truck, unless it is a 3500 dually laramie or something... or maybe you are trading in your other truck and they are giving you less than what you oweon it. My truck, new on the dealer floor, right now can be had for about 34k.

The truck was only 32k, WhenI got the loan it was for a MAX of 44k (meansI was approved for a loan UP TO that much). incase i wanted to buy a new one or wanted to add a warranty or anything. It is better to get the loan BEFORE going to the dealer so you take ALL financing away... then it is down to 2 things.... how much they are going to sell the truck for and how much they are giving for your trade.... makes things simple...

If I had to make the decision I would pick the 5.9...oh yeah, I did, and I DID!
Good luck on finding one.
