I like things simple.
Simple is good but I also like toys [8D]

That said I couldn't agree more when it comes to cell phones. For work I have my crackberry thats OK since I get a &hit load of emails but when I don't have to have that damned thing with me I like something small (currently using the motorola i857), rugged and long battery life. Never understood why my cell phone needs a camera (that takes crappy pics), mp3 player (that doesn't hold enough songs), games (which suck playing on a small screen), etc.

Wondering if you checked out the Dash Hawk II (www.dashhawk.com) before getting the Scan Gauge?

the dashhawk wont work on our trucks... the truck needs to be CAN compliant. I think either the '07's or all '08's will be CAN compliant

No. I didn't even know it existed at the time. I have the 1st gen Scangauge. It's abigger anduglier, but is functionally identical to the Scangauge II. I bought it just to use for sensor value verification, troubleshooting, and code reading/clearing. The DashHawk Looks to be more functional (and more expensive). I got the old scangauge new for $129.00 shipped. The DashHawk price is not unreasonable though.

Ipasted this belowfrom the Dashhawk website.

Variable polling schedules for PIDs to reduce CAN bus load

My vehicle is not on the supported list. Is it CAN compliant?
If you vehicle is not listed in the supported vehicles page, all is not lost! There are many vehicles being added/tested every day and it is hard to capture them all and keep them up to date, so a good way to see if your car has a CAN bus is the following:[*]Locate the OBDII connector. It is under the dash on the driver’s side of the vehicle, often either under the steering wheel or tucked up next to the driver’s side kick panel.[*]Look carefully at the plug with a flash light or other bright light source. If pins 6 and 14 have metal pins in them (i.e. are “populatedâ€) then the vehicle has a CAN bus and DashHawk will most likely work with this vehicle.

It's not compatible with our trucks? Not being argumentative, just curious.

I can't comment on the Ram's but I'm running the DG II with my '07 Dakota. Not all parameters are supported but it does work.In trying to get things set upthe tech support from MSD Ignition (the guys who make the Dash Hawk) have been great to work with and are very quick to get back with suggestions and fixes.

You can check out the thread of some of my issues here:

screen shot, the fields with N/A are live but not active when the truck's not running

Many auto parts stores will read the trouble code for you
for free....unless policy has recently changed AutoZone still does this.

There are a few model years of 2nd Gen Rams
where the 3 key trick does not work
but on others the trouble code shows up
in the digital odometer trip display
instead of blinking the light
