The 2000 2500 has 300000 on the clock. And the 98.5 3500 had abouy 96000 when it happened. There is a nut that backs off in tranny causing u to lose fifth gear

What pisses you off is they would only have to spend a few dollars more and they could charge us hundreds more to put good transmission parts in the truck,

When your engine puts out 625ft lbs and your trany is only rated for 650, your running on the edge to start with

I dont know guys, mine has the stock auto and my engine is putting out 75 hp over stock, I pull trailers with tractors on it all the time, I shut the od off when i am pulling hard and change filter and fluid every 45,000, I cant complain at all, I get in at least 4 clutch jobs and 3 lost fifth gear complains a year at my shop with the manual units, I also see alot of baked autos that were heated to meltdown. It all comes down to maintainance and not telling yourself that since i have the power I dont need to shift to a lower gear to keep the heat and load off overdrive components when I am pulling hard. mileage on my rig is in my sig. just my 2 cents!

You can look on any forum and see tons of complaints from guys about 48RE's searching for gears and not shifting right etc. Whichwas one reason I never considered the auto when I bought my truck. Also,I haven't seen hardly any complaints like that on the new 68RFE. I think they got that one right
