I don't trust any automatic tranny anymore that's why I went with the 6 speed. Although I have owned an auto dodge in the past and it blew at 70k.

I'm wishin I had got one with a standard. I very rarely haul or pull anything, but I still would rather the standard.

i think (dont quote me) but the transmission's are very similar to the auto's in the gas engines but diesels create alot of torque at very low rpm before there is alot of hydrolic pressure rises making the parts wear prematurly. That is what i think i am not totally sure.

Two words....MAXIMIZED PROFITS. That's why the trannies are not as durable as they should be.

if a vehicle was actually built to last 30 yrs or more and out perform any other, then they would have no service department...

be glad ya have a CTD! hemi boysnevercomplain, they do NOT have the POWER to kill a trans

btw...my 93 seems to have its original 3 +1 auto trans. the truck has just hit 350000 miles!!

those 727's were pretty good for their time.

the 48RE is a good unit under stock conditions, but put more than 50hp though it and it will definately complain. all tranny's are like that, but the one thing ours have working against it is the fact that torque hits at such a low RPM.

I heard a while ago the Dodge has had problems withweak transmitions. I thought that they got rid of it with the newer trucks. Is that not the case?I purchased a new 07 3500 this past summer. Is there still problems with the transmissions? Do you folks think it's worth buyingthe extended warranty?

The standard trannys arent much better. I lost fifth gear in my 2000 2500 just last week. This is the second truck it happened to. I lost fith gear in a 98.5 3500 also.

How many miles did you have on it when you lost fifth?

I know a guy that had his 6 speed auto at the stealership 3 times for transmission problems.
