Default Turbo Problems

I was on my way home today and when I took off from a red light I had lost all power. TheCEL came on and the engine had gone into limp mode. This is the second time its done this. Last time I cleared the code and drove it to the dealership. They said it would be a week before they could even look at it and that I couldn't make an appointment because it was first come first serve so I would have to leave it. Well I just left shaking my head and kept driving for 2 months. Now its throwing code P0299 (turbo underboost) again so I guess I'll have to go back and see how long the wait is this time. I guess this is just my way of venting.

I've called both dealers in town and neither one will make appointments. They both say its first come first serve. That sucks.

I've checked the boots and they are still on, but I'm not sure how to check for leaks in the system. I don't know it that would throw the code or not.

Does the '04 have the plastic CAC (intercooler)tanks? If so we saw one blow at the Dyno Day we had in SC. He drove it home, but it was a slug and had very high EGT's. I would think that you could find a leak in it using soapy water and a helper. Also if you can't find any leaks, you could pull the air intake and check the compressor wheel to see if it moves freely, has any end play, or any damage to the blades. I would also contact the service manger and see why they don't take appointments. Be nice, and if you can't make any headway then call Dodge.

How high do I need to rev the engine to be able to detect a leak with soapy water. Does it build boost when its in park? I'll take the intake off and check for damage. Thanks for the advice.

I'm going to dodge tomorrow and I will try to be civil, but they have got to be out of their minds if they think I can leave my truck for a week. How do they think I am going to get to work, walk? Its one thing if they are working on it, but its another to leave it for a week so they can look at it.

Do you think the turbo problem could be why I'm only getting about 14-15 mpg? It seems pretty sluggish lately too. Also have alot of smoke.

if you have an 04 you'll have the metal ends. . .only thing I can think of is your MAP sensor is going out and the coputer doesnt see boost any more.

the connector is on the intake next to the rail.

You need to have that wastegate checked out and see if its working properly. I had a engine overboost code which is different but I also had no low end power on my 03'. When they got in their and started looking, the owner had a damn power elbow on the wastegate and it had gotten clogged up. The hose that connects to the wastegate had a crack in it also. Dont know if this is similar or not, but I thought I would try and help. Good luck.
