No pissing match taken......

Taxes (Blah)

If we held the government to the same standards we seem to hold the private sector it would be out of business. Enron blows your retirement and it's criminal yet the government blows your retirement (SS) and we want them more involved. (I reference that because it was discussed above as to whether or not the government would be regulating our gas) it makes no sense. There is not one thing one can list that the government runs more efficiently than it's private sector counterpart yet the screams to get involved with gas are loud.

We want the government out....yes that includes 90% of the current taxes they take as well of our lives NOT more involved.

(My intention is not to make this a political debate it just plays into our discussions on fuel and lets face it this board uses a whole lotta fuel)

Hahaha

The problem regarding alternatives is the friggen radical enviromentalists. When the debate comes up here in California regarding more nuclear energy they scream about how dangerous it is. When the debates come up about hydroelectric plants it's "Not in our ocean" hence nothing ever gets done. There must be middle of the road converstation, we need to take care of the planet but at the same time use the resources it gives us and understand that we need energy and to progress into the future we need a whole lot of energy.

Only 50% of the crude oil flowing around the world is used for gasoline and many people forget that. Petroleum is used for MANY other things so oil is something we must continue to use.

copied this from another site. pretty good

I own a Trucking company and I spend thousands of dollars in diesel fuel every week and the one thing that ticks me off more than anything is how naive most people really are about the cost of fuel. Here is a little something to think about and perhaps write your local Congress Crook about. I mean congressman/woman.. (Wouldn't want to be politically incorrect to them gals.)

2005:

The cost of diesel was about 1.05 per gallon and included an average of .41 cents in fuel taxes. This means we were only paying about .64 CPG for our diesel.

At this time the cost for a barrel of oil was about $52. Now keep this number in mind

2007:

The cost of diesel in November of this year is about 3.31 per gallon. The fuel taxes are still abut .41 CPG on average which means the cost of our diesel is about $2.90.

The cost for a barrel of oil closed yestrday at just under $97.00 PER BARREL!

Simple math here guys. Check it out

2005 2007

Barrel Price $52.00 $96.50

Diesel per
gallon $1.05 $3.31

Price w/o
Taxes $0.64 $2.90

Taxes $.41 $ .41

Now oil has not even doubled, yet the price of fuel has increase by over 400%!!!

Explain this Congress!!! America? Time to wake up and start making some noise, the British are coming!!! The British are Coming!!!

FYI, San Antonio city owned power company owns 40% of a nuclear plant in Corpus Christi andhave just recently applied for licensing to build 2 more reactors. If approved, this will be the first new reactors in the US in over 30 years.

We have windtricity fields out in west Texas, Nuclear power in Corpus and around town we have atleast 3 coal fired plants that I know of. (We get and burn over 100 train cars of coal per week from South Dakota or some place.)

The coal comes from Wyoming. We can't get the tree huggers to let us build a new railraod much less mine for coal.

Oh, sorry. Wasn't the governor of Wyoming pushing a process to make diesel out of coal?

Hi ~ New to the forum. In reference to trucking company bit behind bars posted, wouldn't that be called capitalism? Bad things will happen if we try to regulate the oil companies pricing and fuel will just become even more expensive. Also, remember part of the problem is the current state of alot of refineries, they are old and in need of refurbishing. I agree , we Should be exploring drilling in certain regions mentioned as well as developing alternative fuel/power supplies.
