Default Volkswagen TDI

I'm looking ata 2006 VW jetta TDI with 22k miles for $22k. I work with the guy that has it. He seems to take really good care of it. Looks brand new. Showed me his mileage log about 45 mpg all hand calculated!

Does anyone have a VW TDI? Any comments, concerns, or advise?

Thanks

My parent's have had to of them and the 45 mpg is no lie. Their 02 was a manual and I got 51 mpg hand calcuatled when I borrowed it for a week.

Their new 06 auto gets around 40-45. I believe they paid $24K for it new. Leather, sunroof, pretty much loaded. I know they hold their value great, they were able to sell their 02 with 90,000miles, cloth, stick for $13,900.

For this area (MN,) his prices seems about right. It's not a smoking deal because they do hold their value, but it might be worth it to pay a little more if you know where it's coming from.

Just my .02 on it....good luck

I don't think that the new engine will come out until '09 or fall of '08. So, the ones that are here are all there is for now. So, as for holding value, yes, some would say holding you hostage to the price. (Because they are temporarily extinct.)

My first personal diesel was a 1981 Isuzu I-mark diesel, I bought it new. It would make you guys that like smoke envious. But, I got 51 mpg.

I had a gas Jetta for a while...dang that thing could scoot. Sharx will tell ya about his close call with one if you ask him

There is nothing to be said about the quality of a VW they just drive. They were built to drive and drive they do

I don't know a single person who has not been extremly happy w/ their VW. My boss has a TDI Jetta and loves that thing...I even got her talking about souping it is up a bit

Yea howdy, I got a 06 jetta tdi, w/6speed auto. I just recently had gps in car and checked it with speedo, and it read 3.5 mph faster then I was going. took it to dealer and they said that it could not be corrected, mpg w/ speedo off hand calc said I get 48 on freeway. I guess when tires wear out I'll go to larger size tires. other than that I like the thing, nice sound system w/sirius, later

theres a guy around atlanta that took his jetta and turned it up a bit. . .it wont smoke like a freight train, but it will lay down a good cloud.

I work for VW and TO ride0169 there is actully a tech bullitin for that consern with the speedo. The cars are coming here with europian tire calibrationa nd you can go in there and change the coding of the cluster and it should be pretty good... when did u take it in for that concern .... this bulltin came out in may...
so go in there and tell them theres a bullitin to change the coding on the cluster and it should fix you up....
vw TDI's are bullit proof.......... sorta...
there require ALOT of maintance... if your gonna buy one i would highly recomnend changing the oil every 3000 miles instead of the recomended 5k... DO use the vw 50502 or 50501 oil... its by castrol and you can get it at any vw dealer. it might be pricey but its well worth it. vw recomends fuel filters every 20K and air filters every 20k i would do it every 10k i would also run an additive like you would inyour cummins. power service and marvel i wouldent really run 2stroke oil i dont think it would liek it..
is it manual or auto????
the transmissions are "sealed" for life its bull****.. change the oil in either and do use vw oil its weird oil and ive seen several come in with atf or reg manual gear oil and it causes issues.
the car itself its pretty good. the engine is amazing..... i also heard you can adjust the injectors to 90 degrees instead of the factory 180 or 210 degrees and itll be alot quicker and smoke a bit but there goes your milage.. ive seen people get 55-60 mpg
but once again dont be the typical vw owner and dont maintain your car and then be like whys this car a piece of s&*t there good but you need to take care of them ...
any other questions feel free to PM me or just reply here...

oh yea and they do have an issue with the intakes "coking" with soot... so beat on it every so often.. to keep it clean. also withthe airfilters. if your gonna keep the facotry air box. make sure you use the vw air filter with the cotton gause over the paper filter it catches alot of small dust and crap and it keeps the turbo clean... if your gonna use like a aftermarket CIA use a prefilter.. those turbos are pricey you dont wanna buy one...
