programmer mpg questions
I'm wanting to get a programmer for my CTD when I buy it in the next week or so ('06 2005 4x4 Quad Cab, SB, auto, all stock, 25,000 miles). What I'm mainly after is getting the best mpg possible. I'll be adding an air intake and exhaust of some sorts later. Hardly any towing will be done w/ it. Mostly hwy/city driving (70/30). Here is a list of all the ones I've heard of. Please give me you opinions on them, any real world results you have or have heard of (credible sources), any pricing you know of, and whether or not their easily detectable by the dealer. Also, do the programmers offer something for the transmission such as firmer shifts or anything that will prolong its life? Sorry if any of the names are misspelled or not correct. I'm new to this.
1. Edge w/ Attitude
2. Quadzilla Mileage Max
3. Power Puck
4. Smarty
5. Bully Dog
6. Banks
Thanks. Oh, if there's one you know of that's not on this list, please include it in your response.

I just did a post similar to this I'll tell ya what I know, The Quad MPG Max is detectable, I hear about 1mpg on 60 or 90HP with the Puck, I've done quite a bit of research and believe I will go with the Predator triple play its on the fly 3 settings (Off, 50, 105HP) and they ppl are saying 2-4mpg, you can even tow on the 105HP setting because its not supposed to raise EGTs I will install a gauge before any atemps to tow on the 105 setting though I wish I could tell you my results as of now since we have the Xact same truck. I got a K&N intake that came on it but on my last truck it helped 1mpg city 2mpg hw. I will be putting in a Muffler delete and a CFM soon though I'm hearing really good things on the CFM from many sources. Everything I'm looking at can be found on RPMOutlet.com, but I've heard different opinions on that site so I have researched the items they sell further on other sites...Good luck and let me know if you find much out...my post similar to this was titled "Programmer ?" might look through it....
I checked out the thread you posted (Programmer ?). Interesting stuff. Not sure if I'll go w/ the Quadzilla or Predator. Seems like i'm hearing good stuff for both. More people seem to have the Quadvs. the Predator. Guess I'll let you get the Predator and use you as my guinea pig! Btw, what do you mean about the CFM? Is that an aftermarket thing? Excuse my ignorance, but i'm totally new to diesel terminology. As a soon to be former gasser (selling my '03 Mustang Cobra SVT & '98 Z-71)I can understand their terms, but diesel people have a language of their own. But I'm soaking up as much info and terminology that I can get my eyes on. Is a muffler delete gonna make it louder, get better mpg or hp, blow more smoke, turn on the engine light? WHAT? Will it mess w/ any emissions systems and cause it to fail inspection? Do you have any info on using biodiesel or B20 in these late modelCTD's? What's"drews brew"? What's a good diesel additive? If you don't know the answers to these, I totally understand. If you know any threads or people on here that could help me out w/ all these newbiequestions, I would appreciate it if you could give me their handle or forward this to them. Thanks.
Well andy as much as I hate to admit it I've been around diesels all my life on the ranch and all but my dad never saw a point to programming a cow chaser I guess!
I recently got mine and thats why I have been hunting threads on here! The reason I was looking into the Predator was a few reasons, the 3 setting switch, it don't make your EGT skyrocket, you can tow on any setting, and they claim its not detechtable which they all are if they hunt hard enough...So i'm waiting on the programmer a bit till I'm sure what I want
I ordered my 5" tip and some 4" pipe so I could delete that muffler, i'll knock that out tomarrow and let ya know how she sounds, mpg affects, and I know it drops EGTs some, I'll fill ya in
The CFM is actually a brand name intake manifold...heres a link http://www.rpmoutlet.com/dodgecfm.htmIt flows alot better than stock, look at this andyou'll see why...http://www.thoroughbreddiesel.com/CF...e-manifold.htm I hear good things about this look it up if ya want and see what info you can find I'm looking for proven results first on this as well....so far I hear good
Yes it seems kinda pricey but I'm thinkin bout a package deal from RPM and that really cuts the cost of things...Let me know what you find out, were kinda in the same boat...

Alright let me know what you think, I would like another opinion...

Super chips makes a nice programmer no doubt those are nice gains farmerguy. You ever had that truck checked by a dealer since ya programmed it...wondering if you might slide by with that one...lol from what I know you won't...but if you somehow did or do in the future please let me know
OK I'm gonna chime in here on a few of these....
We do that on purpose to keep the gassers at bay
Don't worry you'll catch it all soon enough.
A muffler delete will make it a bit louder
. But the reason we all pull them off the diesel is to reduce back pressure and let the motor breath better. Same thing with taking out the CAT. As far as emissions go; a lot of places don't require diesels to be tested. That is why we get away with it. Will you pass w/o a muffler---probably will you pass w/o a CAT -- probably not.
Before the 6.7 B20 is ok to run w/ no modifications and will not void any Cummins warrenties. There are a few guys here who run higher.
Drew's Brew is in a sticky at the top of the forum. Additives depend on what you want. For the most part we all run it for lubricity. I use Diesel Power Diesel Clean (grab it at wal-mart) & the recipes on the bottle. You'll see guys adding 2-stroke oil or any number of things. But for the most part it is to keep the fuel system happy & the injectors clean.
