Oil change 07 ram 2500 with 6.7
Just changed my oil 200 miles ago with rotella 15w40 and it is black already. Is this normal? This was my first oil change at 5000 miles. Are you other 6.7 owners seeing the same thing? Does it clear up after a few oil changes? First diesel for mebut my father owns an 01 ram and hisoil stick comes up clean. Also 12 quarts comes up over high on the dipstick. Whys this? Thanks for any info.

My oil was black as pitch when it had 17 miles on the odometer! Apparently it's normal with these 6.7L engines and it is due to the soot that blows by the piston rings. The reason the common rail engines create more soot is because they have multiple injection events per compression stroke. The 6.7L Cummins has five injection events (six during the DPF regeneration cycle) and the older HO engines have three injection events.
Don't worry about soot in your oil. Diesel motor oils are designed to suspend the soot particles. You can install a bypass oil filter if you want, but it will only capture the biggest of the soot particles. Bypass filters can remove stuff that is 3 microns (millionths of ameter)and up. Soot can be as small as a few nanometers (billionths of a meter) in size.Anything that small won't cause your engineany trouble.

My malfunction light has been on 13 times since august. Each time I take it to the dealer and am told its an emissions problem, Dodge is aware of it , and the engineers are working on it. I thought this new recall with 02 sencor was the fix but not so as I had a light on Friday code 2000 which my dealer is supposed to call with information today.Dont know if this is qualified uner NC lemon laws or not and not sure how to start that process but this sucks paying on new truck and having problems every week or so.

Yeah that would suck, They'll get it straight sooner or later, but thats why I went with the 06 5.9 I was worried bout a new engine and all the new emissions stuff....Their doin really good though....if you got that 6 spd auto I might swing by and toss it in mine, drove one thats a nice tranny set-up IMO
