those look BRIGHT! i was thinking about doing somthing like this for when i plow this winter but i think i seen some lights i can bolt to my bumper upside-down and tap them into my reverse lights. i think i seem them at an auto zone or meijers or somthing like that but i could be wrong. i think they would be alot cheaper just not as "finished" looking.

the nice thing about these though is that they are so easily romoved if you need to... that and there is that nifty external switch so that you can have them turn on when you put in reverse, or you can turn them on whenever you want... i dunno, might ask for them for xmas

As far as backup lights go.
I just wire some driving lights up to a toggle.
I usually mount them on the under the hitch tube.
They come in handy while plowing.

I could be wrong, but I seem to remember that if you are going to go with backup lights on a 3rd gen that you had to tap into the reverse switch ( or something like that ) on the tranny in order to make them work. For some reason they won't work right by just tapping into the backup lights.

I think Mayfair might have a point. Check the wiring link. The link says that the reverse lights are on a 12 amp circuit and the existing lights draw 7 amps leaving only 5 amps. 2-55 watt 12v bulbs draw 5 amps each. The computer module might not like the extra draw, think that there is a short and turn them off, otherwise you'd need a relay or something.

I haven't found any that I like and none in a convenient kit like these .... but I have seen super white led lights that probably wouldn't require additional wiring or relays.

Apparently there is a kit that plug into the trailer wiring harness.

I think I would check with someone that knows for sure. According to the wiring diagram, there isno additional current carrying capacity in the factory trailer tow plug for the reverse lights.

(FYI, it does show additional current capacity for the turn and running lights for the trailer though in the tow plug.)

It's computer controlled in the 3rd gen trucks, it just isn't a simple as will the wires handle the additional draw. The controller monitors the circuits for overloads.
