Default timing

i was wondering if anybody can tell me the advantage of increasing your timing if you increase your hp? or the advantage to leaving your timing stock with an increase in hp? the smarty gives lots of options and programs, but no explanation.... and forgive my ignorance please!

advancing the timing will help lower egt's and increaee mileage. Timing will also let you dump lots of coal.

What it does is make the injectors dump fuel sooner than they normally would which starts the combustion sooner. How all that equates
to performance, mileage and egt's is a bit of a internal combustion engine class.

The even numbers are the same smarty software but, using the stock timing.

thanks for the explanation! so if i'm looking to maximize power with economy, its better to use the program with the advanced timing...

10-4 but, you will notice more smoke. I don't know which version came on your box but, keep an eye out for a more current version to be on the MADS website for download. It has reduced smoke, lower egt's and possibly better mileage. Look for it in the next few days, you'll know because they're dated there.

Isn't the Smarty levels without timing there so you can stack with a box that adjusts timing? That was what I got from the literature.

that would make sense, i suppose. i don't know a whole lot about how the programmers stack and how they affect your rig, etc, but there wasnt anything in the instructions that came with mine that i saw that talked about the different programs except what they were

the quick and dirty about timeing. . .when the fuel in injected earlier in the power stroke the internal pressure of the cylinder is higher, therefore everything is packed in closer so you get a larger bang for your buck due to the higher pressure.
