Default Amsoil mpg test coming up...

time to switch back to amsoil... been running delvac for about 5k miles now and am ready to go back to the amsoil. SOOOOO soon I'll have some amsoil data on my mpg thread.

I'm also planning on putting back on the stock airbox for the heck of it... might as well test it huh??

I think that 5-30 stuff is for the 6.7's. we still need the 40 weight oil.

IIRC the 5w40 is for the new 6.7 engine. Anyway I use 5w30 HDD in mine and I've also talked to other CTD owners in So Cal that use 5w30 HDD with out any problems. FYI, Amsoil has a write up on a semi that used the 5w30 HDD for over 300K.

interesting. . .I know the 6.7L does take a different weight oil then the 5.9's. and also the CJ to CI rateing for the oils as well.

The 5w40 is CJ-4 rated and the 5w30 HDD is still CI-4+ just like the 15w40.

When it comes to finding the small MPG changes
like those between oil brands
or between oil viscosities
I think it is really tough to do a test
that cancels out the weather...wind...temperature..barometer...slight changes in driving, etc.

I don't know of any way to do it except with two or more trucks in convoy.

Even the SAE/TMC type 4 test
only claims to be able to find differences of more than 2%

Lubrizol makes the ATF+4 for Chrysler
and designed the equivalent automatic trans fluid for GM
and they seem to think the MPG gain with improved fluids is in the 1 or 2% range:

15-40 is what I'll be using... will have it in on Saturday or Sunday I think...

TD, I have the AFE stage 2 w/PG7 filter, before installing the aero I used to see a 1 mpg difference between the stock filter & the AFE, since then I think that 1mpg has shrunk some but cant rmember how much. back then the drive was also consistant but not as long so I thought I'd do it again for some fresh data.
