Most likely they have more then a 60-day supply of trucks in inventory and they need to lower the inventory level before they make any more trucks.

Here's my observation. Where I work we make the charge air tubes for the powerstroke and the Duramax. GM has not mentioned anything about a shutdown. Ford had shutdowns scheduled for 2 weeks per month from October thru Febuary. As of right now there order numbers are down, but canceled all the shutdowns except for Feburary, and the powers that be expect that one to be canceled to in the future. Right now we are producing 3-1 duramax to ford. There are also prototype tubes in the works for the small ford and gm diesels for there 1/2 ton trucks. Also some prototyping for Toyota diesels. Looks like 2009 is going to be a good year. As for retool, this usually happens around June or July. Lately, ford has been big into mid-year into's on there trucks. We started with the Ford 6.4 liter in 2006.

I live near the Saturn plant here in TN and half of the town works there. It is not uncommon for it to be shut down for maintenance and re-tooling work.

The employees get 95% of their regular pay so i'm sure they are just fine. A buddy of mine works at a plant and he's looking at at least 3 months off this year not counting regular vacation days. I'm in the wrong business
