Today in about 1 hour my son goes under for his Shunt replacement. for those of you that do nto know what that is he has a tube from his brain to his stomach that drains the fluids your brain produces, normally they drain down your spine but he had spinal bloackage due to a 4th degree bleed in his brain. He was a premie 1 pound 10 onces, 3 1/2 months early. My wife and mother in law (who flew in last night) have his at the hospital now, I will meet them there after I take my 6 year old to school. I will let you all know how it went.
Thanks guys. It is his first replacement but not his last he has 3 - 4 more to go, every four years until full growth as he out grows the tubes. My nerves are going crazy right now, but I have to take my older son to school as it would not be good to have him and all his energy at the hospital.
Hope all goes well with your son! 3.5 mo premi, damn that is early. wasthat the only complication? (hope so)
he had the bleed which resulted in other things, he is 4 years old and does not talk, he can communicate, just not with words. he is legally blind. The doctors told us he would never walk and that we should consider taking him off life supprt (at birth) but he walks, runs, climbs and enjoys life. he does have minor stroke like symptoms on the left side of his body but with a lot of therapy and botox a lot of that had been corrected. all things considered comparing him to other premies of simular size he is doing very well. He is the spider while my other son is the turtle.
