Ok so I am driving home from work and sitting in traffic. I am stuck behind an idiot with his flashers on in the middle lane of a 5 lane Interstate doing all of 10 mph .
All the while the traffic in all the other lanes are cruising on by at 50+ mph. I am about ten cars back and been there for 10 minutes or more when finally I see a gap with just enough room for me to PUNCH it and get in the other lane.
I am focused and timed it just right, leaving a HUGE plume of thick black smoke!! But as soon as I turned back to look in front of me, another car about 10 cars in front of me did the same thing only his dumb *** pulled out in front of a passing car and he got plowed.
Well this is what the story is about. You can imagine me punching it and all the physics involved. The rpms are at 3000, tires breaking loose, huge plume of smoke and accelerating fast.
When I saw that the 50 mph lane I just jumped in to had STOPPED!! I hit the brakes hard but the damn engine and the torque was plowing me forward and the damn thing just wouldn't stop!!! Seemed like it took for ever for the rpm's to drop and the engine let go of the tranny so I could stop. It was a scary few seconds but it seemed like a few minutes.
I almost got to test that badass "Texas Bumper" out on a Nissan Altima!!!

 

wow that would of been a crazy outcome! i know what thats like with out engines, it seems if you bring your rpms up fast they take a minute to come down which makes stoping harder.... good thing your alright!

 

Just makes me even happier with the stick, just push in the clutch and you're good. Although when I was younger I learned that about momentum. My old 6.9 diesel ford takes twice the distance to stop as a Bronco II from the same speed. Had to take the ditch to avoid destroying my buddy's Bronco.

 

Ive had this happen before. . .however I can just push in the clutch and remove all the power to the wheels. what you experienced was the rail was still highly pressurized and needed to bleed down, the only way for it to bleed down is for the fuel to go through the injectors. but not only that the CP3 is still pushing fuel, and the FCA is still wide open feeding it. . .yea, it takes a second for everything to level out, but the time beaing is rather hair raiseing when the RPM's jump to 3500 and dont come down. . .so I just shift to the next gear if I can and dump the clutch. . .BURN OUT

 

honestly when ppl do that on the highway call the cops. It's ****in dangerous to be going ten mph in a 60 mph zone because the ppl behind you arn't gonna pay attention and wack. thank god you're all right man

I'm thinking the bumper would have won Some people are just downright stupid what the hell are they thinking

 

Drew, would the turbo being "wound up" cause the delay stopping? Kind like turbo lag or something

 

And somewhere, on some Nissan forum, there's an Altima driver posting about a "valuable lesson" she learned today... Don't get anywhere near big trucks with big bumpers!

 

with autos, drop the shifter to 1 if you have to. it wont shift that low right then, just to 3 or even 2 if your lucky! 1st is usually hit on decel around 19mph or less.
