After looking at Mayfair's 2G install, I put the brace under the battery so that the maintainer is next to the battery. If anyone finds a better place in the 3G model to mount this, I might move it. I also want to set mine up like Mayfair's so that I don't have separate extension cords for the maintainer and the heater.

reed, How did you mount the brace? That looks good. Mine(Schumacher) looks like yours.

I removed the nut holding down the battery. I placed the L shaped bracket that holds the maintainer under the battery and then tightened the battery nut back down. So the battery is holding the maintainer securely in place. I used 3 plastic ties to hold the 120V plug in place.

Thanks! I'll try that tomorrow after work if it's not too cold, it's supposed to "warm up' into the 30's I hope!

So are these essentially just trickle-chargers? Is this a cold weather thing, or would you use it year-round?

Y'all keep coming up with this stuff and then I go away and wonder if I need it. Well, need might be a strong word... [8D]

Yes they're basically trickle chargers. I will unplug the heater when it warms up. I guess that depends on where you live. It gets pretty cold here(hasn't been above 25 for about 2wks and below 0 at night)and the grid heaters are pretty hard on on batteries and I want mine to last as long as possible. Diesel Demon is only on his 2nd set in 12 yrs so that says something,

These are a little bit different than trickle chargers in that when it reaches 14 volts, battery maintainers / conditioners shut off until the voltage drops to 13 volts and then begins charging again; preventing over charging.
