Default Performance chips - do they REALLY increase MPG??

I've been reading they only fool the computer into displaying higher MPG, but in fact don't profide higher MPG. Any real world experience out there????

I've been reading their ads, and none of them even claim to increase MPG, only HP.

Comments???? Anyone done any hand calculations on this?

Yeah, if you don't drive like a maniac with all that extra power.

I have seen several of these programmers that trick you into thinking you get better fuel milage. The programmer will change the overhead console to read KPM but still display the letters "mph".

my TST kept out of die mode and my right foot being easy on thesmoke generator. . .yes, I actualy got my mileage from the mid 16's to the low 19's. and that is straight highway. lower numbers with stop and go, but yea, I do get slightly better mileage. . .but where the fun when one can belch out nearly 400hp on demand to blow away the riced mustang at the light next to you.

I've got an Edge Comp Box and I have gotten better mileage useing it for sure. Probably my best increase was about 1 1/2 mpg gain, although I'm still playing with the settings to find where I get my best. It's hard right now though with the winter mix fuel. Since that showed up I'm DOWN about 1 mpg. [:@]

The new NOx pollution regs are so tough
that almost any mod that gets the engine back
to the kind of fuel injection timing sequence
and air to fuel ratios
that were used on the Cummins I6 around year 1998
will give a 10 to 15% fuel economy improvement

I think it was a wash for me. I was lucky enought to get a truck that got better than average mileage from the start. My edge maybe picked me up 1-2 mpg but the extra power makes me want to squish that skinny pedal alot of times.

Like Mayfair said now that winter mix is in I'm down about 1.5 mpg. Driving 30 miles each way to work in 4wd in the snow doesn't help either.
