Default All Terrain Tire Selection

I need to put a set of all terrain tires on my 2wd 03 Cummins dually. I want a tire that is going to wear well but also perform well when needed. (Don't we all) My biggest reason for wanting an all terrainis the fact that I am at all of the GNCC races throughout the season and there is a pretty good chance that we will get rain at one of them. Most of the races you are driving on make shift roads out through fields so a decent all terrain is a must. I put a lot of highway miles on as well going to and from the races and traveling for work. I pull anything from a 12 foot box trailer to a 32 foot 5th wheel camper. I havnt run all terrains on my Cummins before so I thought I would see what you guys have had luck with. I have been leaning towards the BFG AT. I know they wear fantastic on SUVs and the MTs even wore well on my 1/2 ton.

Also what is your guys take on only running the ATs on the rear and just run a road tire up front?

Thanks in advance
Phil

I'm runnin the Bfg TA KO.
I like them a lot too.
They've been pretty good on snow and ice.
As for wear I don't have many miles on them, so I can't comment.
What ever ya do , don't get into mud with them though they ain't real great there.

I have the bfg all terrains and can not stand them. I am going to go with pro comp's all terrain or extreme all terrain next.

I've got the procomp extreme at's right now and I am very happy with them. Just got them put on less than 2 weeks ago, so I can't say for the life of them, but I know others here have gotten good milage. Been quite pleased with how they've handled the snow earlier this week.

i am a big fan of the pro comps. I am running Xterrains on my 1/2 ton and love them, they wear really well also. My dad is running the procomp ats on his ZJ and they do fantastic. My biggest problem is size. I can't get the procomps in a 235/80/17 or a 245/75/17. I am really limited on my tire selection.

I went through the same decision process recently and decided on the BFG AT/KOs, 285/75-16, load range E version.

Only have a few hundred miles on them thus far, so I can't comment at all on longevity, but these things do have a pretty solid reputation for the long haul. The ride is much, much better than before, especially highway. Traction in rainy weather lately has been great.

Several folks have asked me about road noise, but with my '96 12v and straight pipe, I can honestly say I haven't noticed any at all.

I will add, since so many others here seem to be PC fans, that the Pro Comp All Terrain was a close second choice for me. I went with the BFGs solely because I have several friends and family members who have run them and been very happy. I really think either would get you where you want to go.

By the way, 4wheelparts.com is currently running a special deal where you get a $75 gift card with a set of 4 PC tires or a $60 gift card with a set of BFGs. Looks like there might be free shipping, too?

My brother in law runs Toyo Open Country ATs and has never said a bad word about them. They were my close second pick behind the procomps. Not sure about the available sizes for your application, though.
