Default 30-60-90,000 mile service

My dealer wants $699.95 for this service. I laughed in his face! After spending $40,000 to purchase my vehicle from them, they want to screw me every time I come back! Does anyone actually pay this much?, or is it just a big joke?

[align=left]You can do all that yourself for about $3-400+ depending on fluids. Our trucks require a synthetic oil in the front and rear difs. So that would put that dealers service at $900

Holy crap. That is way too much money for that. I understand it is a business and they have to pay there techs and lights and tools etc.. but Do it yourself. all of that stuff is easy. the only thing I am weary to do is adjust the bands on the tranny.

It says:
-Replace oil and filter DIY-$80 for good synthetic and Fleetguard Stratopore filter.
-Tire rotation DIY- 1hr labor, free if you have a tire warranty where you bought your tires.
-top off fluids Unless you have a leak, nothing to do.
-inspect air filterAKA look at the filter minder (notice it doesn't actually say replace air filter)
-service battery What clean the terminals--Most likely tell you you need new batteries.
-install fuel system treatmentWTF is this--some Mopar injector cleaner in the tank? Power Service at Walmart is $8
-flush cooling system I don't recall this in the owners manual, but unless you have been filling it with tap water, it only needs a drain and flush every 100-150K or 5 years.
-EFI service with fuel filter DIY 5 minutes and $12 for a fleetguard filter from Genos'
-inspect water pump weep hole for leakage Takes 15 seconds with a flashlight.
-inspect exhaust system 2 minutes, but lets face it, unless its ready to fall out, nothing to do.
-inspect front wheel bearings(4X2) It doesn't say repack, so what are they doing? Probably just checking adjustment by prying up on wheel.
-differential service DIY 30 minutes and $80 for synthetic lube. Gasket is reusable.
-perform trans flush(filter additional) DIY, drain and refill every 30K and you'll never need a flush, but I doubt that is what they are doing anyway if they are charging extra for the filter. I don't have an auto trans, but a good fluid and filter can't cost more than $100
-lube door locks, latches and hinges DIY-- graphite lube available at FLAPS $2
-multipoint inspection Same as safety inspection if your state requires it. They just look for obvious crap and probably look at brakes since it isn't anywhere else on the list. Brake jobsare where dealers really stick it to you.
-service rear differential( I know it already said it once)
-front diff. & t. case service 4X4 s-synthetic (add $199.95) DIY--Front diff lube is $40, and another what $60 for T-case? I don't have 4X4 so I don't have to worry
I don't even see where they mention lubing the chassis where required. What about checking tire (inc spare) pressure?

30K service DIY Totals:
Synthetic oil and Fleetguard filter $80
Wix air filter (I don't trust anything cheaper)$35 (not included in dealer service)
Bottle of Power Service injector cleaner $8
Fleetguard fuel filter $11
Rear diff synthetic lube $80
Front diff synthetic lube $40
T-case synthetic lube$60
Synthetic trans fluild $60
trans filter $40 (not included in dealer service)
graphite door lube $2

TOTAL $416 including the$75 worth of filters the dealer didn't provide

Dealer wanted $899.00 + $75 in filters + 6% tax = $1032.44
DIY cost $416 + 6 hours labor for average DIYer = you save $616

Just for your knowledge when a Dealer changes your Antifreeze they mix it with tap water. I have called and spoke to 7 different dealers in the Los Angeles area and all stated the same. I also called Dodge and they said that the dealers should be using Distilled Water and not tap, but they can't control that. I didn't like the answer but I thought I'd pass on the information.

I wouldnt pay that. Do it all yourself and buy something nice with the savings. The band adjustment is actually pretty easy and you might as well do it when you change the trans filter. Just remember the adjustment is in inch/pounds not foot/pounds of torque. That can be an expensive mistake ive heard someone do before. Might as well throw a oil pan drain in there for $5 to make it easier next time.
