1st oil change
so iv had my truck now for about 4 months now and iv gotta about 5200 on the miles and i wanna go and get my first oil change in the new diesel when i get home. i am taking it to a dealer to get it done and its gonna be bout 60 bucks for the change and filter. im use to gas motors and all and since this is my first diesel i was gonna ask is there anything i should look for in getting it changed or any preferred filters or oils that work good with the 6.7. i believe i read on here that the Mopar filters are the only ones that can be used with this motor??? im partial to GTX oil and all, should i go ahead and run a syenthetic oil? i hate to say i dont even know if im running regular or syn. oil in it now. anywayz any help would be kool thanks a bunch.
You can use any oil filter. The mopar filters for your truck are just relabled fleetgaurd filters. Fleetgaurd is a division of cummins, definately a good filter. As far as oil, if your using conventional, you have to use oil specific to dpf motors. You'll want an oil that meets API CJ-4.
my first change i used a mobil 1 filter. i am about to do my second oil change at 15000 miles i am using a K & N filter and royal purple synthetic oil. the 6.7 uses the same oil filters as the 5.9. you do not need to change the oil according to the light on the overhead console. the manual says every 7500 miles. i asked the dealer about this and they told me to just reset the light when it comes on. to do this you; 1.) turn the key to the on position (not the start positoin) 2)fully press the accelerator pedal three times 3) turn the key off. the light is now reset.it also describes this process in the owners manual
DODGE is NOT allowed to tell you what filter to use.
the Dodge supplied filters will do just fine.
when changing oil on your own, use napa gold, wix, fleetguard (cummins), and do NOT use fram...
make sure to have 15-40 oil..either petrol or synthetic

ya well im just going on of having over 5k on the motor i havnt looked at my over head console to see what the change oil thing has to say. im just used to running around 5k to 6k on a motor before changing the oil and all. i think im gonna run the Mopar filter and all just dont know what oil to run just yet lol.
i noticed a significant difference in acceleration and 1-2 mpg better with the royal purple 15 - 40 synthetic oil. at 15k i am putting the royal purple in my axles. it is cheaper than the mopar oil. just my $.02

i did oil changes at 5000 (conventional) 10000 (royal purple) i am doing my 15000 service next week (royal purple). R.P. recommends waiting until 10000 miles on the diesels before using their oil.
Geno's is the best buy on filters if you buy them for the whole year, I got my box last when I bought the truck and getting ready to use the last oil filter and fuel filter soon.
I believe it came with 4 oil filters, 2 fuel, and one air, that will get you to 35000, it tells you on the site and about time for me to reorder, I might check with Cummins shop in town and see what there getting first, I was way to busy last year when I got the truck to do it, out of town everyday but Sunday working daylight to dark, before the new housing market crashed here.
