Default Shade tree tinkering

Ok so I decided to change all the filters and oil today. I also decided to remove some offensive items from the truck while I was at it.........

I have a question though. I have never seen or heard talk of removing the white plastic air foil thingy that was in the elbow at the turbo. Well I did and you can see it in the picture. My question is, will this cause the rubber elbow to cave in under vacume? Is this something I should be worried about?

Also I was surprised at how easy it was to remove the baffle and the silencer ring. The baffel pulls right out then just epoxy the cap back on the tube

Oh I almost forgot, I also installed the EZ oil drain valve from Geno's. It will be well worth the $$ when I get to use it next time.

And this was by far the hardest oil filter I have ever changed. I worked on it for an hour trying to get that damn thing off there. I finally had to drive a screwdriver thru it to get it off and got oil EVERYWHERE!! Pissed me off. But it won't happen again I can tell you that much. I don't think the dealer even changed the filter when I got my first oil change, I'll bet that is the origonal filter from the factory. That bastard was welded on !!

Get a strap wrench for the filter, it makes it very easy. I did a write up with a ton of pics a while back, just do a search. The strap wrenches are only a couple of bucks at any of the auto parts stores.

As for the air intake...I left the white elbow in mine, mostly because (to me) it actually make sense. It would seem that it actually smoothes the air flow and keeps it from tumbling right before it gets to the turbo. The rest of the junk.....Bye Bye.

Another reason I do my own oil and fuel filter changes (as well as anything else I can do). Peace of mind knowing it was actually done and done right.

There is a vacume in the intake tube. Especialy if the filter gets too dirty. The filter minder works off the vacume created as the filter gets clogged up.
So I would imagine there could be a pretty good vacure created if I let the filter get too dirty and wondered if anyone has had problems removing that air foil.
