I would not change the injector pump until it quits working or starts throwing codes in the computer. The lift pump is what needs to be changed, especially if you plan on hot rodding the engine. Walbro and FASS seem to be the popular choices around here.

just as bob said. . .as long as you keep fuel to the VP44 it'll run well.

Sorry to say this but.....More than likely your lift pump died and it took the injector pump with it when the injector pump starved for fuel. I'd suggest investing in a good fuel pressure gauge. When you find out how much the injector pump costs, your gonna wish you had.

Also forgot to mention that there are probably codes in the ECM but the "Check Engine Light" may not be on. If you don't have a code reader, click your ignition 3 times "on-off" real fast but don't start the truck. On the third "on" click leave the key in the on position and look at your digital odometer. It will start showing numbers that start with the letter "P". Post those numbers here and we can tell you what they mean.

Yes it is possible that the truck was running on the injector pump alone. If this were the case, you wouldn't go more than about 5Mph. If you think that the injector pump may still be good, then do not start the truck again until the lift pump is fixed.

When my first lift pump died the truck would idle fine, but when you stepped on the gas, it would not go more than 5MPH. Luckily I did not ruin my VP44. I have 177k miles on the original one.
