interesting observation about smarty. . .
guy's I hope you are as attentive to how your engine runs as I am. . .radio is usualy turned down (8-12) and I listen to the engine more than anything. . .I do this with every vehicle I drive.
anyway, one thing I noticed about my truck even before I got my TST was I had a few flat spots in the RPM. usualy around 1900-1950 then again about 2100, then another but not very noticable about 2600-2700rpm. . .she would still pull good even without the TST, but it got a little annoying. . .with the TST it went away a little bit, but was still there. I had pretty much chalked it up to how my engine was and compensated for it with my shifting points and to make sure I didnt change gears where the RPM's would fall there, and usualy shifted right as I hit those RPM's depending. . .
well. . ever since I got the smarty program loaded up it didnt hit me untill I was coming home from work today when I started anticipating the flat spots that were no longer there. . . .normaly I give her a little throttle going into 4th(since I start out in 3rd), but by doing this meant the gap between car infront of me and my front bumper closed up VERY fast. and starting out in 2nd means my truck is rocking harder than Leo Mazoni at a Braves game.
I know that smarty has alot to do with this, I'm just wondering if other people have noticed the same thing.
BTW, if anyone is wondering I'm running program 3.11A that has the moderate torque management. SW#4. no timeing so I can use my TST as well. I may switch to #5 to give me a little more timeing

Drew,
I thought I was the only crazy guy driving and listining to his CTD with the radio down, its good to know there are more crazy people out there like me j/k
. What year is your rig? Is the smarty tracible if I take it in for warranty/emission problems? Is it eassy to take off? Sorry for all the questions just trying to figure out wich is best for my rig/use. I'm always taking it in for emission problems, changing of turbo etc etc.. wondering if this is a good Idea for my rig or not??

Since loading the Smarty into my truck and using the same version as you Drew I found that the trucks acceleration is really smooth as compared to stock. I have the automatic though, I also listen to the engine all of the time. I have also noticed that the engine has quieted down, and it does not have that destictive diesel sound since loading the Smarty software.
Ya know Drew, there is one thing that my truck has done a few times latly and is the reason why I updated the Smarty software. Every once and a while while I am idleing at a red light or simular, all this sudded the engine will kind of Miss. But its more like I turned the key off and on real quick, the engine clatters and shakes for just a second like a miss. It's wierd and I never feel it while driveing, just at idle.
I guess thats kinda off topic but it is related.

I too am glad to hear I am not the only one that listens to the engine more than anything. I have talked with Drew in the past about a "sound" I am hearing while in gear and at idle and a touck underload. It goes in for it's appointment tomorrow morning mostly because the service manager wants to have it checked out and trouble shot to rule some possible things out. I am kinda particular about how my vehicle's run, so I am on the edge of my seat til I know something isn't wrong for sure. I always think it is a good idea to listen and get a feel for how it runs that way any hickups or whatnot can be indentified early.
If everything checks out ok, I am for sure in the market for a smarty jr. along with some other mods.

I just noticed the last few days that mine does the samething when I first start it, but it's only when the engine is cold and the temps outside is below 50 or so.

mine does the skipping on occasion as well. . .havent noticed it yet with the smarty loaded.
BTW, I have an 04.5, the first of the 600's
and I just loaded SW#5 instead of #4. . .maybe the extra timeing will give me a little more kick in the pants. . .OH, TST is at 2/2, at 3/2 traction becomes a serious issue. 4/2 and the tires are smoking.
