Yeah, I though it was a little odd that they would bring up a loss of compression from running out of gas... sounds to me like they are trying to run up a labor bill just to fix something simple. I did try priming it though, but that was before I found the belt. Would the belt cause it not to crank over? O and in regards to the starter... this thing does exactly what it did before all of this. Although its always shut off Really rough and has since I got it home on day one, I'm the first owner of the truck so I know exactly what its been through... You guys know what you would do if one doesn’t want to start? Procedures I should look out for? And when we say pump... fuel pump? I can understand how running it out of fuel would burn one up, don’t they use the fuel running though them to keep cool?

No it will start without the belt, you just won't have any accessories like alt, water pump, ac, and power steering. I could give you my procedure for diagnosing a no start but it probably wouldn't do you much good as it pertains to powerstrokes and there are some differences. But basically, you make sure you have fuel, then you make sure it is GOOD fuel. Then you gotta make sure the CP3(fuel pump) is working, i'm not sure on the cummins but on the powerstroke you can usually hear it when you turn the key on. Then you gotta make sure you have fuel pressure, because there could be an inlet restriction in the pickup in the tank. Those are some basics, and usually problems from running it out of fuel are solved there. Once again, this is my experience with Powerstrokes, so it may or may not be the same.

Oh damn, I don't how I could have forgotten that! Yes always check your fuel filter! Can't tell you how many times I've seen dirty filters cause a no start!

Thanks for the help guys! Here’s an update, I spoke with them today around 3:30EST and they gave me some bad news... Apparentlymight need a new engine. I have no clue what could have caused this, I’m not to sure that they even know what they are doing. Maybe this truck is a lemon; CTDs are bullet proof and then this??

Do any of you happen to know the factory warranty on a 05' 2005 CTD?

Thanks again,
Corey

Is it under warranty?

Either way, start documenting EVERYTHING just in case they balk about paying.

Best of luck !!

Wow, thats crazy. How could the compression have been destroyed by lack of fuel? Hope it works out for you.

I think your warranty is toast since you told them you have a chip and left it in there.
