Default tach-o-meter install ??

is there any way to connect a tach to my 1st gen ctd?

unlike the 2nd gen and later models, I have no ELECTRONICS (to a point) under the hood. the majority is mechanical.

I would like to see what my cummins runs at....

any ideas???

I think you would be able to mount a cam position sensor to run your tach. Since you have no electronics though... you'd really have to know what you were doing as there would be voltage issues you'd need to know how to deal with. It would be a complete custom job.

You have the OEM connector under the dash, taped to the left side of the steering column. Gimme a sec to find a pic.

Remove the little dash panel just below the steering column. Looking through the opening, to the left of the column ~

The OEM factory tachometer plug offers the following:
- 18ga Black = +12vdc for gage lights
- 20ga Orange = 12vdc Common
- 18ga Red = Switched +12vdc
- 20ga Grey w/light blue tracer = Tachometer Signal From PCM

Hope this helps.

I usedthe ISSPRO Tachometer in my heap (0~4000RPM, P/N ~ R5503).

If you choose to go this route, DO NOT purchase the companion ISSPRO hook-up harness. It is a universal harness for the ISSPRO line. The instructions as provided are bass-ackward and if you can figure it out without ruining stuff, you'll learn you don't need it at all. Just run the wires directly from the OEM connector to the tach.

ISSPRO also offers a 3000rpm model if you're that slow.

Where did you get your Tach mount for your 93? I read your recommendations on your Tach install and want to do the same. I'm going to go with the ISS proR5503 Tach like you did, but want the smooth look that yours has with the collum mount. Any sources on the Collum mount would be greatly appreceated. Thanks!
