I never had any problems with my 2nd generation cummins. A 97, 99, and now an 02.Totaled the 97, traded the 99 automatic for the 02 6speed w/ exhaust brakefor towing. First truck I've ever owned for more than 2 years. Still like it..

I think the problem with domestics is that theylet the last year of R+D fall into the first year owners hands. We've all heard the saying "don't buy the first model year." With the Japanese vehicles that was never really an issue. The imports change "stuff" like we change underwear. The American vehicles let stuff run. Production cycles aremuch longer before any "improvements" are brought in. Now, that cycle has shortened with the US products but it had to happen. The big 3 have been asleep at the wheel for a long time. It's about time they and the American consumer wake upand smell the roses.

I think import and domestic are just words now. Most imports sold in the US are built mainly in the US now. The new Tundras are made in Texas an Indiana for example.

I saw this truck in Diesel Power and I like it personally. Kinda plain but unique isn't always better. A conservative 8.0L would be a great starting block.

but look at the parts content, all the pieces are made in japan. all they do in the US is the assembly. it costs them less because they just have to ship smaller crates.
