Default Joining the Smarty Club

Just put my order in for a Smarty. Now here is my questions. I have a mostly stock truck, but looking for some smoke and some power, driveability, and better fuel economy if I can keep my foot of the right pedal. I have a stock transmission, and would LOVE to keep it that way. What setting should I run, I'm thinking #3 correct the 60hp tune which would be MORE than safe for a stock transmission right. I have my transmission temp gauge and boost hooked up right now. Pyrometer will be going in soon once I grow the cojones to drill my manifold. Also, I have a 4 inch down pipe, and 3.5" piping dumped out in front of the p/s rear tire. Will the decrease of .5" raise EGT's. I was told by a lot that it would not as I delted the cat and muffler and all the kinks in the pipes that would result in higher EGT's. I also have a stock intake now. Anyways, just making sure all my bases are clear and I'm not going to damage anything. Just I've been edging for the smarty for quiet sometime

I have been running mine on #5, moderate torque management and driving very conservatively. #5 gives you 90 hp with timing. The couple of times that I stepped on the go pedal, I was very impressed to say the least. I would recomend that if you do not have self control you could damage some transmission components and tires. #3 setting with mild torque management should definately be safe without any consequences. I let my son drive it last weekend and all that he could say was Holy S**t. As for mileage it would appear that I am going to see a gain according to the odometer, but I will not be sure until I hand calculate the mileage.

for stock auto's #3 is as high as you should go for normal driving. . .if you are easy on the go faster pedal you can get away with #5, but just be easy.

I still have the stock clutch on my truck. . .SW#4 and my TST turned to 4/3 and she holds, but I'm not sure for how long.

I had the same goals as you 05 (stock tranny and wanna keep it) so I went with the Smarty Jr. I have it on the 60hp setting and I get plenty of smoke and 18-19mpg so far. The drivability to say the least is AWESOME...plenty of power and torque. I love it!

I got the Smarty Jr. and run the 70HP setting. I was on an on ramp on the interstate and was goin approx. 45mph and punched it to get up to speed at 55mph the tires broke loose and I got outta it. Then when I got back on it pretty much floored again the RPMs redlined and I wasn't speeding up. The truck is still drivable it WILL slip if I give it over half pedal I'll pry be returning it to stock to try to get a new tq. conv soon as its getting worse now.

I read somewhere the tranny is good for 800ft lbs tq, and the 70hp setting puts you close to that I assume, However I read the Tq Convertor is only rated to 675 tq so it will go out to save the trans...If thats the case that would be why I Jacked it up...just be careful

my truck did the same thing as yours dide aero with the RPM's red lining and the trucks not doing anything diffrent than it was befor i punched it. i had the powerpuck and it did it on both 60 and 90 horse settings. my truck did not have that problem with the XZT (65 horse) but the damage could of been thru out time. i have sold both of those chips and now have plans to order the smarty cr and i hope i dont have the same problems....

im just curious, if it is the torque converter that is slipping is that the only thing that would be damaged?? could i have it replaced with something after market and be able to run more horse power thru my tranny with just the torque converter upgrade??

Yeah, when I bought my TST, I wish I would have known then what I know now. I wouldn't have purchased it and would have gone with a smarty. Oh well, live and learn.
