Default Differences between the 03s - 06s

Besides the interior, and the headlights on the outside, what is the differences between the 03s to the 06s?

Engine wise..
tranny wise..

Also do the HIGH OUTPUT cummins have a different tranny than the NON HO engines???

I test drove an 03 that had a GREAT tranny on it, and the sales guy said that since it is a HO engine it has a better tranny on it. This 03 is white, with only 60k miles on it! it drives new, and is $23000, so im interested!

I believe the 03 had 2 motors, one being the HO which is 305hp/555tq, im not sure what the smaller one was. As far as the tranny's, i don't know, but I know someone will.

03-04 were the same when it comes to the HO. I have an 04 and have the 48re tranny. 03 doesn't have a cat and is 3.5" exhaust from the turbo to the muffler and 4" out of the muffler.

04.5 and on were a 325hp/600tq motor, same tranny, cat and 4" exahust from the turbo back.

03 with 60K on it, it sounds like a great deal. If it were me, I wouldn't pass it up waiting for an 06. My opinion is you won't gain much.

there are some 03's that actualy have the 47RE for the auto tranny, also some 03's have the NV4500HD tranny. those are teh Standard output engines though. the high output's got the 48RE and the NV5600.

in terms of engines, 03 to 04.4 are the same, incaft the only real changes between 02-04.4 was the HPCR injection system. in 04.5 with the 600 motor, there are a few internal redesigns for oiling the pistons. the turbo is different as well as the introduction of the full 4" exhaust and catalytic converter. before that is was a 3.5" to the muffler then 4" after with no cat. the 04.5-07.4 engines are all the exact same. the only real change between the 04.5(600) and 05(610) engines was a computer flash due to white smoke at startup, but mostly to compete with the Duramax which was pushing 325hp and 605tq.

23000 sounds like a decent price for that truck and the milage. I'd like to get 28k for my loaded 06 with 30k on the clock but I doubt i could get it. I'm ready to get a duelly. You won't regret getting the CTD though!

the 48RE is stronger than the 47RE. larger planetary gears and more internal line pressure for starters.
