I say hold on to it for a few months, if they dont ask they dont care and it belongs to you. If I was a business owner I would make damn sure not to double ship and if I did, it would be like dropping a money clip full. if someone finds it, I dont expect it back. that is part of life.

if the information from the sender is available, call them. if not then do what you want with it. it's not your error it's theirs, help to correct it if you can

I think some one has a... "secret admirer" and they thought they'd win your heart, by offering you this gift!.... Or... I'd be watchin the rear view mirror...he/she could be a "Stalker"...[8D]

did you visit the UPS site and check the tracking information?

it should tell you where it originated at the least.

I realize you said Oregon, but you never know.

now, if some how it never finds it way back home, I know it would look great on the front of my VW Baja

i usually just try to put myself in the business owners shoes, and do what i would want done, as i run a business myself.
Not trying to flame anyone but it dosen't sound like they have a real good handle on their business if they double ship a $1500 piece of equipment without collecting before they do it.

i hear you.i would like to think that would never happen under my control in my business. but s#%t does happen. i was just stating tocall the original company you dealt with, and see if they sent it. if they don't know what is going on or can't answer you, then your home free. i certainly wouldn't go beyond that. but, really what are the odds a different company sent the same item he ordered from another business. and it may not have been a person that made the error. it could easily have been a computer error. i'm not trying to be the "moral police" by any means. just answering the op's question. and as a side, i actually have had the opposite happen in my business. we double billed someone once for services provided. they paid with no questions and never realized it. the next month i was going over the books and realized what had happened. i refunded the differencewithmy appologies. do most of you think i should have just kept the money? also you may be rewarded for your honesty and efforts(discounts on future purchases, free merchandise, etc.).

touchy situation ya got there.... if it was something small like a dvd or even something in the range of 100$ i would be able to easily keep it and mark it off as their problem... BUT thats a big piece of change ya got there, i would maybe make one or two phone calls to try to fix things and if nothing came from it i would keep it for a month or 2 and then if still no one comes looking for it i would have it for sale on ebay

i called ups as soon as i got a tracking number in my email, before it even arrived at my apt. it says it originated in san antonio through a distributing co. that services at least a dozen online offroad shops.

why not just call the original company and ask if they recently sent you the another winch? if so, see what they want to do. you may be surprised. i can't see it being any other company. i mean come on, how and who would just send the exact same winch that you ordered to your shipping address. it obviously was a mistake on their part. give them a shout on the phone, and if by chance it can't be figured out, then you win. it'll be yours without any question or guilt (if your that type person). i usually just try to put myself in the business owners shoes, and do what i would want done, as i run a business myself.
as i was shopping around for the best price, i had filled in shipping info on at least half a dozen sites but never did the last finalizing step to make the order. shipping address info is usually like step one, then there's usually another 1 or 2 steps submitted before you input payment info. i remember receiving emails from a few sites after deciding on the site i did saying "are you sure you don't want to purchase xxxxxx?"
