Cummins won't go above idle
Any one had any experience with a bad throttle position sensor on 99 or near dodge cummins? Going down the road and truck just falls down to idle speed. Can press on accelerator and have nothing. Dont die, just goes back to idle but nothing else, and after about 3-5 seconds it will begin working again. Scanned the codes and comes back to throttle position sensor. Just wanting to make sure before I spend the money on it to find out that it is something else.
Anyone else had this same problem? What did you have to do to fix it?

have had experience with the tps/'bellcrank' on those trucks. usually is a belcrank/sensor failure but before you replace it first check your battery cables for being corroded. somehow this has caused the same concern intermittently for me on occasions. take them off and clean them and give it a try if it doesnt work put the bellcrank assembly which is not cheap but is usually the cause. let me know what ya find.
Here is a thread from another 99 w/ the issue -- it has some steps to reset the TPS and such...Good Luck

I had a similar problem on a 2004 diesel. Usually it occurred on starting.
One dealer told me it was "not a bug, but a feature" -- a second dealertold me"They said what???", and reprogrammed the computer and replaced the throttle control sensor.
No problems since.

I have the same exact problem with my truck (Going down the road and truck just falls down to idle speed. Can press on accelerator and have nothing. Dont die, just goes back to idle but nothing else, and after about 3-5 seconds it will begin working again. Dealers want $500 for a $40 part thats designed to fail pretty stupid huh?
Not to sound like an a**, but how could you tell that it was designed to fail.

it will un-bolt but Dodge doesn't sell the TPS sperately. I agree that this is a stupid design. But it is an electrical part, and ALL electrical parts fail sooner or later
