I'm gonna have to look into doing that. I wonder how much of a pain it would be to set up an inverter and put a female receptical in beside the heater...

To do what?

If you already have the truck plugged in, couldn't you just plug whateverinto the 110V line instead of useing an inverter?

I mean for when I'm out trying to break suspension components in the hills. Like power for a tailgate party. I have a buddy who has a new Tacoma that has power outlets in the bed. I like the concept, especially for hunting and what-not.

3. I was actually thinking about plugging in one of those ceramic heaters into it that would be mounted inside of the cab. That way when you get in in the morning the cab will already be nice and toasty.
I'd be careful about that. Consider the total current draw of everything plugged into that cord. On a 15 amp circuit, you only have 1800 watts available, and the block heater alone is 750 watts. Little household heaters typically run 750 on low and 1500 on high. Up here we have in-car heaters specially made just to try to keep windows clear etc, and they normally don'trun more than 750 watts. If you have a 20 amp circuit, you're safer.

Nice clean install though. Nice work!

Mayfair, nice job on your mod. I am thinking of a plug in the back as well. Can you still plug into the front if you want?

Here is a link for an inverter install. Seems pretty easy. http://www.i-hacked.com/content/view/161/45/

You can also get smaller inverters that simply plug imto the cig lighter. I have one for DVD player and a laptop, then just store it under the seat when I'm done.

Thanks bert. I have a small one that plugs into the cig adapter, I'm just thinking how much of a pain in the @$$ it would be to get a full size inverter andrun the wires from the cab or engine compartment (depending on mount) to the hitch and make it completely 100% waterproof and also so that there is absolutely no drain on the battery when it's off.I'm assuming that if Mayfair puts a charger on his batteries, then undue stress is probably the last thing I want considering the price of 2 truck batteries.

If I leave my block heater plugged in all night, how much power is that gonna pull? I mean electric bill wise?

Back in December there was a similar thread about block heaters and current draw, and I did some math to create an estimate. See my post on this thread: https://dodgeforum.com/m_1085690/tm.htm
