Default Fuel Problem?

I have a 2001 Cummins and it auto. I have this problem that started the other day is that if I idle crusie and I tap the gas a little bit real quick, it likes heitates. It doesnt do it when I driving just like goin slow. I have replaced the lift pump several months ago and my trucks runs just fine other then that and it ussually starts up right when I bump the starter and that is how its been since I've had it for 22,000 miles. The fuel was chaged several months ago too and the lift pump is located on the engine.

I forgot to add that my lift used to turn of and run for like 10 seconds my now it turnes one for like one second when I turn the key, if I bump it over, it'll run for about 10 seconds. I mean I just need to bump the starter and its starts right up, it doesn't crank over and over to start.

I thought that when you just turned the key to the on position that the transfer pump only ran for 1 to 2 seconds and when you bumped the starter, the transfer pump ran for a longer peiod of time...As fas as the hesitation, I do not have a good answer, but I will get with my diesel tech tomorrow and pick his brain....

Thanks for your help so far and I also changed the fuel filter today and that isn't the cause.

so you replaced the lift pump with the same stock pump???

I'm wondering if you either 1, got ahold of a bad lift pump, or two your VP44 is weak.
