Default has anyone ever had this issue? (remote start)

So i have remote start on my truck (already installed when i bought it) It didnt work at the time i picked it up, because the tranny was smoked and it was always in gear, therefore no remote start. So now the tranny's fixed and its been driven daily. when igo to use the remote start, the lights flash as they should, it delays for the plugs, and then it will fire. When it starts, it instantly..i mean like 1 second shuts itself off. Then it will keep doing this cycle of delaying, and starting and dying. Until i get in the truck and start it my self to stop the thing from trying still. Im stumped...

Is it a factory Mopar remote start or an aftermarket?

Can't help but wonder then if it isn't a security key issue. Do the 98's have a sentry key? I know with mine it has to be tied into the PCM (like the mopar) or guys have to stick a spare key in the truck so the computer will read the code.

One of the 2nd gen boys will jump in and kick me to the curb and tell me how wrong I am any time now

im not sure, i dont think thats it though, because when the truck is driving down the road, you can take the key out and drive without it.... idk if this helps any

well....found out two things... the truck tries to start and then kills itself right away, when it tried a second time, i got in the truck and slid the key in and turned it to the on position, and it fired and stayed running. meaning that once it starts with the remote, it senses that the key is in the off position? shouldnt that be bridged or something?
also....the remote cant be used to turn the truck off....tried that and didnt like the starter motor engaging while the truck was running...DOHH[:'(]im an idiot

I've installed dozens of remote starts, it's a security system issue, the pcm or body control module (whichever does this function) is not seeing the correct value of the key when it starts, so it's shutting off the fuel. If it was already installed when you bought it, then it's fairly safe to assume that it worked at one time. Should be an easy fix, either the bypass module is faulty, there's a bad connection with the bypass module, or it needs to be reprogrammed for some reason, what kind is it? If it's one I've installed I can probably walk you through it.

hey dingo..wow that would be awesome if you could help me out. It is made by DEI. Im not sure how high up on the quality end of things it is, but id like to keep this unit instead of getting anew one because this one waits til the "WTS" light is off, not just a generic "12 seconds" or something for the plugs. let me know, thanks

DEI is the most common, they make viper, avital, and a whole bunch more. I have the "installation manual" in front of me from my Wife's tahoe, after looking a little more, your truck shouldn't have any factory anti theft, so it may be as simple a tach wire not working correctly, but just to be sure, what color are your keys? If they are grey, then it does have the antitheft, but if they're black, then this should be pretty easy.

no glow plugs on cummins. just intake heaters. as for remote start take it out NOW! my truck is hooped from it. it costed me over $1200 to have it installed and removed because it never wqorked. i live 1 hour from where i got it installed and counting time off work, fuel at $90 a trip, meals etc... it probably was closer to 1600$. REMOVE IT NOW!
