What is with the foam piece over it? Is that some sort of secondary air filter or something?

hey cumminz... awesome pics!!!!

2 q's tho:

1. What model K&N is that? I called my local AutoZone and they told me that they don't have any replacement filters for my rig.
2. Did you get the DPF delete kit to do your exhaust?

Thx!

Sorry to be a dumbass... just noticed that you stated DPF back. Hmm... nice! I'm considering doing the DPF replacement. I get a little giddy just thinking about it!

Cumminz, thanks for showing us your mod. I'm always interested in 6.7L mods.

In this picture where you say "you do the math," I am actually trying to do themath. I think the stock filter has more filter area than the K&N filter. You would have to multiply the length x width from each filter pleat, multiplied by the number of pleats. The filter area of the stock filter is not 8" x 9". It's more like 9" x 4" x 30, which is way more than 31" x 6". See what I mean?

the sides of the factory do not count because they are up against the edge of the box and cannot draw air.

AutoZone and Advance had NO numbers for the new filter. K&N website has the new number. I purchased mine in person at the Summit Racing store south of Atlanta.

As far as filter area I was referring to increased flow. The opening size in the factory is as quoted and it is impeeded by metal screen. The hole opening in the top of the K&N is same size but nothing impeeding. Measure around entire K&N it is 31 inches. No matter how you size it up it flows better.
