I was just out inspecting my rotors and noticed the surface looks a bit different between the two. The old one looks really smooth and normal but the new one isn't grooved or anything bad but looks kinda like a record with hundreds of fine scratches the width of the brake pad, you can barely feel with your fingernails. Is this normal for new rotors needing to be broke in? Could this cause the old one to grip harder than the new one?

 

did you have the new one turned before install?

sometimes they come new with a slight warp.

you did rinse the factory oils off the rotor didnt ya???

 

Yeah I cleaned it really good for sure. No I didn't have it turned but I'm going to try getting both rotors turned this weekend so they will match. Hopefully Napa can turn them with the hubs still attached.

 

Check for air in the brake line.

 

I bled the brakes really good. Someone did suggest a tool to manually bleed the brakes, anybody ever need to use one of these tools?

The rotor will come with the cross hatch marks in it, these aremachining marks. Not saying it is perfectly smooth, but it should have a slightly dull appearance with the lines going at about a 45* angle. If you replaced one and not the other this could cause some of your problem. You should always replace things in axle sets- brake parts, tires. I wouldn't bother turning the old one, just put a new one on. It also sounds like the drivers side is clamping a little harder than the passengers side. Something may be stuck and not returning open when the pedal is released.
Mine has a horrible pull with medium to hard braking I just haven't pulled the front end apart yet. I'll get to that when I put shocks on.

 

Well I just replaced the driverside rotor today so I now have two new rotors, two new calipers, new pads, and the one new brake line on the passenger side. For some reason the truck still pulls to the left pretty hard. I have bled the brakes alot, and checked the front end for any play in all directions but feels tight. I'm lost, I've never had such a problem changing brakes. After I installed the new rotor I tried to re-seat the pads by stopping hard from 60 mph a few times, once they heated up the truck kinda went straight under heavy braking and even pulled to the rightsometimes. Any ideas what to try next?

 

theres air trapped in the brakelines somewhere, bleed them again just do them the old fashioned way with someone in the cab make sure they are doing ti correctly as to not let air back in the lines. depending on how much fluid u let escape when u changed the brake line u might have to bleed other areas, if you let it go completely empty then u need to bench bleed the master cylinder.

 

I'll try bleeding them again. The master cylinder never went too low but I did change out that brake line on the right side which is the side thatdoesn't seem to be grabbing too good.
