Wait till this summer and gas will be 50 cents more than diesel.
Sadly, not because diesel is going to go down, but because gas is going to go up to match and then surpass it. I don't think any of us will ever see <$3 fuel of any flavor ever again.

Although it does somewhat have to do with the fact of gas raising, diesel raises right with it. Diesel will either come down a little, or stay unchanged for this summer while gas will hike up for the summer, this is because the demand for heating oil is less, so the diesel prices dont keep going up.

I'm sorry ... I'm still not buying the whole heating oil thing. In my area alone, I've seen TONS of houses convert to gas 20 + years ago, and I don't know of ANYONE who has switched to oil or has had a home built that rely's on oil for heat. Now I'm not saying that there aren't some houses that are still on oil, but they are very few and far between.

If there IS such a "demand" for oil in the winter, why doesn't the gov offer people who rely on oil to heat their homes incentives / cash to convert to gas or propane?

Mayfair,
I know in Indiana there is still a good portion of houses that rely on heating oil. You don't see it much around any of the cities of reasonable size, but in rural areas it's quite common. I grew up in an area that it was very popular (and still is) once you got out of town. Even here in the Indianapolis area, 20 minutes an almost any direction you run into older farm houses that still use it.

How this extrapolates to the rest of the country, I won't pretend to know. You know how backwards we Hoosiers can be.... we just adopted daylight savings time 2 or 3 years ago.

I agree with Mayfair, I don't understand the whole heating oil deal. In my honest opinion, I say we take over Kuwait or move in on Saudi Arabia. I would not mind another year in hell if I knew the price of fuel would be $1.50 again when I got back.

Methos, I guess I never eally considered the homes out in rural areas. I guess I just figured they heated with wood or propane, but either way how many houses are in a 5 mile square area, maybe 10? It seems like when I drive out to the country I only see a house every other mile or something.

Behindbars knows what I'm talkin about

Some of the small towns have gas but not out in the country. You have 2 choices near me oil or electric. Most people are just going to all electric as they replace their oil furnaces. I have geothermal at my house. It's like an electric heat pump but pumps water through pipes buried in the ground. I also supplement with wood just for the aggrevation.

Wait for a few years till the price of electric catches up with everything it's made from, coal or nat. gas. Then we're all screwed.

Sweet, does it also supply all your hot water? Im justpreheating the water with mine. The priority demand was a little pricey for me.
