Yes, A geothermal system is basically a heat pump except the outside coil is actually a water loop (usually either vertical or horizontal)buried in the ground so it will provide heating or cooling.

Since the ground temp stays 50-60 year around, its much more efficient than when the air temp is either20 in winter or 100 in summer.

For those of you wondering what this has to do with CTD's, Im actually going to be hauling it home in my truck

No it doesn't supply all of the hot water. It has the desuperheater on it and just supplements it. Sometimes in the dead of winter or high temps of summer it will produce enough hot water to take over.

Yeah Mayfair it heats and cools just like an electric heat pump. Just alot more efficiently.

Mine are in 4 trenches 5' deep and 150' long. There's 750' of tubing in each one but it's kinda coiled up like a stretched out slinky.

You can also do it in wells straight up and down if you don't have the land. I think Handyman Herb has this if I'm not mistaken.

Sorry we got your thread usafr

And then we have mine. I have 4 - 250 ft deep wells drilled in my yard. Note the wonderful Georgia clay everywhere [:@]

Usafr. Sorry you're having to sell your truck but you'll have a new home soon enough and we'll always be here...
