Default Interesting find about my TST

alright guy's, you know Ive been trying to figure out what has been going on with my TST lately. . .I pulled it off last week so I could run a continuity check on the harness and ohm out any diodes to make sure they are still operational.

well, come to find out I do have a blown diode. the TST box has two power lines, dual orange that combine into one, and a red power line.. .I'm not sure the purpose of either, however from the diode block two lines go in, and three come out. there are two lines that are currently dead off that red line and what ever is powering off the red line is no longer getting any power. this would deffinately explain why beasty would loose her mind.

I'm currently waiting on a call back from the guy's at TST about this and hope I can get it fixed. Smarty is fun, but I like the top end kidney punch TST has.

nice troubleshooting my friend, not many people would check the power diodes

I wonder what caused them to blow... Depending on how the power lines are tied inside the box, you may have been drawing all of the current for the box thru the one line... not good...

I do recall now thinking back on it that the fuses I pulled to connect the power to it did have a look like they had gootten a little warm.

hopefully a circuit wasnt overloaded that caused the diode to pop.

how did you measure the diodes?

the only way to tell if a diode is working is to first ohm out one way, then turn it around and get another ohm reading. the double orange was an open circuit from the connector main connector back to the wire end to the fuse, then 130ohm the other way. the red wire was an open circuit both way so I know that one has popped.

Drew, once the TNT tune is available for download for the Smarty.... you won't even need the TST. Don't now how much you or anyone here keeps what with the Smarty software updates but, the guys running the TNT tune are blown away. I haven't tried it, I actually have the TNT/R which is a race tune. Only with supporting mods will anyone be able to get it.

The new TNT will have several features. All but a couple will be available on the TNT. The "R " tune has rpm & shift limiter adjustments and is a VIN locked software

The items are :
1)Speedlimiter
2)RPM Limiter***
3)Shift limiter***
4)Torque Management levels
5)Injection timing
6)Rail Pressure
7)Wastegate

The levels are :
Speedlimiter :
From 25 to 250 Mph in one mile increments.

RPM Limiter*** : Two selections.
# 0, Stock value. ( Default )
# 1 4000 RPM.

Shift Limiter*** : Two levels.
# 0 ; Stock value On. ( Default )
# 1 ; Off. ( Shift light indicator will be turned off.)

Torque Management : Four levels,
# 1 ; Stock.
# 2 ; “Mildâ€. ( Default )
# 3 ; “Moderateâ€.
# 4 ; “Wild†TM increase.

Injection Timing : Four levels.
# 1 ; Stock.
# 2 ; “Stock injectorsâ€. ( Default )
# 3 ; “Aftermarket Injectorsâ€.
# 4 ; “Less timing advance than “Aftermarket injectorsâ€.

Rail pressure : Four levels.
# 1 ; Stock.
# 2 ; “Mild†Rail Pressure increase. ( Default )
# 3 ; “Moderate†Rail Pressure increase.
# 4 ; “Wild†Rail Pressure increase.

Wastegate : Two levels ( applies to 2004.5 and up trucks only )
# 0; Stock. ( Default )
# 1; “ OFF “. ( same as in the aftermarket turbo softwares )

Keep an eye on MADS website. It's suppose to be ready anytime now. If you decide to stack the TST with this tune..... BE CAREFUL !!!

About the only way you could have blown the diode is to exceed the current rating of the diode.
Which would happen if either there was something else bad drawing an excessive amount of current, or the thing got hooked up backwards, without a fuse of a small enough rating, in which case the fuse would live and the dide would go POP.
That said, if it just stopped working, without you messing with any wires, I would guess there may be another problem with the circuit causing the diode rating to be exceeded. I would say the diode is the secondary issue, there s probably something else wrong. I have worked on alot of electronics and never seen a diode go bad for no reason.

and that is the same thought pattern I've had all day. . .what would cause this problem and the only thing I can come up with is a faulty circuit in the box itself.

when I get the call from the guy's at TST hopefully tomorrow I'm probably going to send the whole thing to them and have them fix it.

I did trace the entire timeing harness and most of the injector harness. it was the actual injector plugs I just started assumeing on since the pinouts were runnning the same.
