Fuel milage increase
as it stands now, my fuel milage with the ctd just increaded by 2 mpg!
withmy vegi oil episode lately , I ahev been filling up with good 'ol #2 LSD . same proce $3.81/ gal.
initially it was to wash the lines of the vegi oil. after 2 fill ups, I hand calculated (every time) my mpg. the average for me is 16.5+/- on ULSD, this second fill up of LSD , I calc'd at 18.5mpg!
maybe the wvo washed the tank, lines, and engine out making it more efficient. could be a coincidense also. I will keep an eye on it for ya.

RE: Fuel milage increase
I got the same results from 2 cycle oil. Which is much safer than WVO.
Here is a thread on my forum about the hazards of using homebrew Bio diesel... Scary!

It can be rather expensive damage...

I was looking into recovering wvo.
looking at a 3 or 4 stage filtration system including multiple fuel or oil filters in line to reach final product grade. any ideas?

RE: Fuel milage increase
After doing some biodiesel reasearch, I was suprised to find out that alot of guys are using regular water filters. The whole house kind with the cartridges. Some start with a real porous one then finish with a fine one. They said you can get them down to 1 micron and they're only a couple bucks at Wally World. They said they last suprisingly long too.

Welcome aboard! We all look forward to the knowledge you have about these engines.
Can you elaborate further about the 2 cycle. How much, how often, etc?

As for how much 128:1 ratio for 1st and 2nd Gen's 200:1 ratio for 3rd Gen's (2007+ models don't require it!)

As for how often... All the time... Use it the winter I use it the summer... I never bother with injector cleaners (solvents) they just cause more wear to the fuel system. Cetane booster reduce horsepower so I never mess with those either. So for the last 2 winter here I've been down to -20*f with 128:1 ratio of 2 cycle oil in the tank and never gelled. Remember the pout point of diesel is roughly -20* and 2 cycl oil is well down in the -40*F to -50*F (Snowmobile oil). Great anti-gel... Something WVO can't do...
But there is me 2 cents...
