So you are suggesting that it is probably better just to run 2-cylce oil instead of PSD and MMO. I definetely don't want to damage my engine or fuel system. I'm open to any suggestions. I have noticed since I've been running the addatives that my engine runs a little smoother, but no increase in fuel mileage (and my mileage sucks, only about 14 mpg).

 

This is all based on the CETANE and BTU's of the fuel...

High cetane fuel tend to be lower in BTU's like winterized fuel tend always net lower MPG's because it 45> Cetane level. But why is this???

Now if you look at the BTU's of the chemicals added to the fuel to increase the cetane level you find everytime they are add products that are less than 20,000 BTU's by volume when diesel is 147,000 BTU's... Naptha (Zippo Lighter fluid or coleman fuel), Xylene (paint thinner), mineral spirits (paint thinner), napthalene (mothballs)...

alright, i have the 2002 cummins, with the vp44 and a FASS 150 pump system, i guess all i wanna know is what do i asdd to my tank, and how much of it, how often? haha i dont wanna read all the posts on here

 

As for me... (2 Cycle Oil in VP44) I've been using every tank at a mixture rate of 128:1 which is 1 ounce of oil for every 1 gallon (128 Ozs)of fuel.

For a 3rd Gen truck 2003-2007 the best mixture rate is 256:1 which is 1 ounce of oil for every 2 gallons (256 Ozs)of fuel.

I use it summer or winter every time I get fuel I add a shot...

As long as its TCW3 ASHLESS 2 Cycle Oil you should be fine... WalMart's Supertech Outboard 2 Cycle Oil is the cheapest stuff at $8 bucks a gallon. Then I switch over to snowmobile oil in the winter time to improve the pour point (Anti-Gel)...

Several people started complaining of loss of MPG and power in a 3rd Gen using 128:1 ratio... You got to remember you guys have 2 injection timings... (Pilot Injection & Main Injection) so we figure the oil ratio was causing a change in the way it burns. But my buddy "Dorkweed" has been runninf 256:1 ratio now for 2 years and still holding +2 MPG gain !!! So that became the 3rd Gen Starting point was 256:1 ratio...

That page is full of good information. I really like the ScanGauge II, but they don't work on the 2004.5. I'm definetly going to stop using MMO and PSD and start using a 256:1 mixture of 2-cylce oil.

 

I read a lot of moparmans threads over at cumminsforum and there was a ton of info on it. I have been using super syn for about 7 k miles and the engine is quieter. I couldnt tell a big difference in mileage, but if it helps to protect the VP44 from the ULSD, I'm all for it.
