Ouch... The white smoke is a dead clue the Advancement piston isn't working correctly... The white smoke is common fo a failing VP44 pump... When my pump was failing I could load the front yard with white smoke as it was warming up. But once the temp came up a bit it was gone.I would check for error code once more... Then I would try giving the fuel system a shot of 2 cycle oil to hopfully re-lube the pump...

But I don't think it wioll fix much now that the damage is done...

As for the HRVP44 pumps you might ask around. I hear both sides... Some people like them and others don't... But a good SO VP44 pump is rather good too...

Default APPS code 0122

I'm getting a code of 0122 Is this a APPS?
IF so, would it make the engine run rough/popping? I have to get it up to over 1600 to make the popping stop.
I thought I had fuel leaks (and I suppose still could) but doesn't appear to.
I know, just because I don't see fuel doesn't mean I have an air leak right?
Should I replace all the lines up to the fuel filter with viton/rubber and go from there? If that doesn't work maybe all the lines from IP to injectors?
They have been taken off and on about 1/2 dozen times and I'm thinking there ****ed.
So, maybe the APPS has nothing to do with this?

??

It is under the black curved cover that site up level and just behind the radiator on the drivers side...has two screws one on top of the cover and one in front...very easy to get to.

I see this was posted in 2008 but now one can buy a TPS for a Cummins 5.9 from many places the best one being Duralast at Autozon for 238.00 made by Wells Engineering.
