cold intake, might go back to stock
Maybe someone can help me here, please? ( mopar1973 man hint hint.)
some of you may recall I mentioned my mother biught a 04 3500 dually ctd, 235 hp, auto Any way she drove it to fort Irwin and back. (about 120 round trip)
Hand calculated she got 21.1 mpg. cool. so I said buy a after market air cleaner, S&B in town $399.99, anouther place $275.00, online $202.00 free shiping.
Three days later it came, I installed it.
My ? is, Why in thehell did fuel milage go down to 12.1, 12.6.
My mothers neighbor has 4 big rigs and a powerjoke, he told her to unhook the batt. for a hour so it can reset the ecm. saying now the motor is getting to much air and the ecm is trying to compinsate buy adding more fuel. my thoughts are if same throtle position ecm adds more fuel to bring the fuel to air mixture to the correct level, wont the motor accelerate? not making sence to me.
any way did the batt. disconect thing not much help, 13.6 mpg.
What is the corse of action of the intake air temp sensor depending on the air temp?
By the way I did install it on the new cold air system.
Another ? I have a 05 325 HO. ctd. If I switch the ecm between my moms 235 hp ctd & my 325 hp ctd dose the 235 hpbecome a 325 hp and vise versa?
im pretty sure that you can't switch the ecms. first off i believe that there was a difference in the motors between those years and second if you do switch them then the trucks would only run for a matter of seconds if at all because the skim codes wouldn't match up.
God Ram It, on the valve cover on my mom's 04 3500 dually it says advertised hp 235, on my 05 it says advertised hp 325.
We both bought them used, her 2 mo. ago me 1 mo ago. so they could be cal. trucks.

01, my Pop swears the same thing happened to him when he switched. He is the original owner of my Ram. He said he thinks he lost 1-2 mpg when he made the switch to the K&N. I'd love to switch it back if I could, but the stock parts are long gone.
Have you tried to switch it back to stock to see what happens?

GRI, I thought the same thing, but Drew informed me/us that the California motor was rated at 235.

the reason is that the motor stops real quick to hug a tree then continues. if it just ran like the rest of our trucks than it would show the same numbers.
