Does anyone know whats up with CTD "53" block problem?
Just read an old post where someone said that they had a 1999 2500CTD. The block cracked and he replaced it. He mentioned the dreaded "53" block problem. What is this?
I am looking at a 1999 2500 CTD w/ 80k. I want to know what this problem is so I don't buy a truck and have to deal with it. Sounds like a series of engines made at some time before or during 99. Is "53" The engine code denoted in the VIN #? What am I looking for so I can tell which engine the truck has?
Thanks, Johnny

It's on the block (right side I think-Drew will know for sure)...they have a tendency to crack. No rhyme or reason to which one's crack and which ones run for 300k.
The number 53 will be stamped on the lower front driver's side of the block near the powersterring pump. The blocks were cast too thin along a cooling jacket and crack.
ohh I'm bored....
